Default Drag Race Suspension Pros, I Need Some Help!

My car has run a best of 11.29@121 with a 1.61 60ft. I need some help with setting up and understanding a drag race suspension. I know it's all in the package but I have no idea where to start. The only susp. parts on the car are a set of BMR lca's and an adj. panhard bar. I will also be getting a 6pt cage in a week or two. Here is (in a nutshell) what I have

99 m6 Z28
3260#'s with driver
boltons
LSX78mm
TR224 cam
Spooled 9" with 4.11's
15x11.5x26 et streets

I wish I would have done the suspension before everything else. I know the car will run much better if I could get it to hook like it should.

The first thing that I would buy would be a spohn rear race sway bar. That was the best bang for the buck that I have spent.

How high of an rpm are you launching at, and will it take more or will you spin?

The mph will always be higher on stick cars versus automatics as a general rule. The times are good, but if you can get the 60 foots down to the mid 1.50s the 11.teens or even 11.0s under good conditions can happen.

Wild thing, yes, I was thinking about a good rear sway bar set up. This car is hardly ever driven on the street so I'm not worried about drivability.

Villian, I launch at 50-5700 and that is all it will take even with the best track prep.

I've been racing 6 speed cars since 1996 (and have a few thousand passes)so I can handle'em. I just think I have gotten everything there is out of the stock suspension. Now I'm ready to get the susp. all worked up so I can blast my way into the 10's with this small cam and a 6 speed. After I do that I will be swapping over to a TH400

A sway bar, torque arm and a GOOD set of adjustable shocks for the rear. Thats a start.

LCA relocation brackets are a must, they will put instant bite in the car.

Afco are the best shocks, but are the most expensive. Strange are next, and third is QA1/Hal.

I would start with some adjustable shocks in the front(HAL best for the dollar), ditch the front swaybar(if you havent already) , frame connectors(if you havent already),Airbag in the right rear spring(cheap mans anti roll device) lower control arm relocation brackets and build from there. SHortly thereafter you will bend the factory torque arm(if you havent already)

Are good rear shocks as important as good fronts? I guess what I'm asking is, will a cheapo rear like a Comp Eng. do anything for me? Or are they junk? I was told the rears were not as important and to just go with a set of these.
I was hoping Madman was going to chime in on this as he is the man on this stuff. I'm just trying to learn the do's and don't before I spend a ton of money on susp. parts.

FWIW, what do you think a good set up would be worth on a car like mine? I'm thinking maybe a.15??

On a stick car the adjustable rear are a must. The cheapos arent going to work to your advantage. Get at a minimum a set os Strange single adjustables. A set of relocation brackets and adjustable lower control arms. BMR makes a good antiroll. Wolfe also makes a killer one.

Ok Madman, I'll be getting back to you for a few more pointers on this. I will be ordering some of this stuff in a few days.

Something I'd also like to know is, what is your method of setting the pinion angle with an adj. Tq arm? I have a mount to the floor Spohn but haven't put it on because I've heard 100 different ways to set the angle but they are all different.

Scott, I'll take all the help I can get! The car has a date at the chassis shop in 2 weeks for a 6pt cage install but I'll be out there playing around this friday with dads car and another buddys car. I'll probably bring my car and make a few passes. I have an adj Spohn Tq arm (bolt to the floor), LCA relocation brackets on the way and some shocks in the next few weeks. I want to get this thing in the 10's with stock heads and the little cam BAD!

I'll give you a call about Thursday. I'm heading to the Gulf for 4 days fishing in the am.
