Default Tire Pressure

What tire pressure should I run on my BFG KD's for the best launch? The tires are 315/35/17s. My car is a 98 z28 with a shift kit, lid, and exhaust if that helps any. Also, I have 2.73 gears. What kind of times should I expect in 60 foot and the quarter mile?

12 psi?!? You're kidding right? Radials should not be run that low. Hell, I don't run my slicks that low, and they have a more flexible sidewall.

If they are a BFG drag radial, I'd start somewhere between 15-25, but try and do a good burnout across a clean patch of concrete if you can find it (just stab the gas hard, don't hold the brake and try to keep her straight). Then, look at your marks left from it. If it's dark on the outside and light in the center, you want more psi. Dark in the center and light on the outside is less psi.

Most street tires I wouldn't go much below 20-25 psi. I ran mine at 27 psi and cut 2.00 60 foot times with my automatic Formula with just a catback and lid.

Here’s a link to a pressure question on M/T Et Street radials: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=689401

You’ll see the majority of them run high teens to low-mid 20s for air pressure, and this tire will hook better IMHO than any other drag radial out there. I'm going 1.52 60 foots on 18 psi, and gator's 99 t/a is going 1.3X 60 foots with 20+ psi. You always want to run the max tire pressure you can in the rears (without burning up the centers) for rolling resistance and stability.

Good luck hooking up!

Derek

Thanks for the replies but we got rained out They're street tires not DR's. When these wear out, I will put DR's on.
