Big block definitely. You will need to turn it pretty tight with those heads on that small of a motor.

Class max is 555ci.

For Big Blocks larger than 500ci their are no Power Adders Allowed,
BB smaller than 500ci are limited to 2 Solenoids for nitrous.

Heads where chossen for their Flow Characteristics and are one of the only Prostock style/Pontiac heads allowed.

Heads will be built with Ti Valves, Jessel Rockers, Jessel Lifters

Have you thought about any other power adders? I think the 408 will make it down the track faster w/spray if you can keep the heads down. You'll have to run a gang of juice to exceed the BBC though.

I'd take stroke out of the BBC to get under the 500 inch rule and spray it.

I'd say go big block and make it a 496 like suggested, 2 solenoids with dual dry kits could get ya probably 300 hp of spray to it... no way that's not gonna be faster then a 555 on motor, especially with the head limitations.

I love ls1 stuff, but with what you want to do you'll have to push it farther then anyone has successfully done on nitrous so far, even if you can get it fast enough, it's not gonna stay together for long. To race a series like you want to do, you need reliability to keep things together..... you don't want to be tearing the motor down every week that's for sure.

I assume that a 555 n/a setup is competitive for the class.... if that is the case, a 496 with a 300 hit should easily outrun that, especially if the rules for heads and whatnot are the same, the loss of pwr you would have from going down 60CI vs what you would gain from a 300 hit are not even close, the 496 with a 300 hit wins every time. Especially if you can hook it out of the gate. But, with that tire limitation, I'm gonna guess you will have it set on 2 stages with a delay.

I assume your 555 is the normal 4.560 x 4.250 = 555. Since you would have to change the crank and get different pistons anyway, I'd bore it to 4.600 and put a 3.75 (396, 427) stroke in it for a 498.

4.600 Bore x 3.750 Stroke = 498

or you would need a custom ground crank to come up with this for your current bore.
4.560 Bore x 3.825 Stroke = 499
4.560 Bore x 3.800 Stroke = 496
