Default How much power to trap 120+mph through a stalled auto? What Heads/Cam are you running

My goal is to trap around 119, 120 MPH in the 1/4 with a basic heads and cam package through an ls6 intake, bolt ons, a little bit of weigh reduction (AC rear seats, spare tire, sway bar, hardtop)with a 3600 Vig converter.

I have a set of Patriot Stage 2 5.7 castings unmilled 67cc's with duals sitting in the garage and have not made a final cam selection as of yet. Will a 230 232 F13 cam get me there or will I need to step it up to a mid 230 duration 232 236, 234 240. Car will see spray but I am looking to maximize my NA times

For those of you trapping 120mph or better H/C only in an A4 What is your setup? Any secrets to your combo?

It's alot harder to do what you are planning then people will tell you.

fwiw my 402 makes 470 rw thru a th400 and a n/a 5800 converter, and it traps in the 125 range, weigh's in at 3465 with me in it.

Once it's fully dialed in I expect to see 126 to 127 n/a and 10.4's out of it. Trap speed isn't everything, I'd be more concerned with the ET then the trap speed.

Vengeance TFK/Vindicator cam package here. 126 MPH trap speeds @ 3300 pound raceweight. Just the cam alone would have put my car over 120 MPH but that just wasn't enough for me. I lock my converter at the 660' mark and that gives me a few extra horsepower out the end. I'd probably trap around 124 if I didn't lock the converter. My car puts down 459 unlocked and 483 locked so you can have some concrete numbers to match up to.

Also, if you're planning on trapping 120+ in nasty air it's going to take a lot stronger package obviously. My car is down 2-3 MPH in 90+ degree temps vs 50 degree temps in the 1/8th mile. It only trapped 98.7 in the 1/8th last Friday night in the soup we raced in.

I was this ... close to picking up the X1 but the pics showed the cam was nicked and I didn't think it would be enough to meet my goals

I have heard the 4.10's on an A4 are a lil too much? Why are the majority going with 3.73's

Camscam you car is running like a bat outta hell. How do you like putting aroud town with that 4400 converter?

and jaSSon you were one of the main reasons I was so close to the X1

From what I've gathered you need ideal air, BIG stall, BIG cam, BIG flow #'s out of your heads, 4.10's and most importantly BIG ***** to spin that bitch to 7000 RPM at the track

Thanks alot everyone anyone else out there trappin 119+ A4?

118.7 mph was my best in my camaro.

baby cam(no lope at all, no specs sorry)
Lloyd elliot ported heads
stock bottom end
the junk flowtech headers with cutout and stock catback
ls6 intake and stock ported tb
pt4000 stall
3.42's
17's all the way around with 275/40/17 mt dr's
6100rpm shift points and the previous heads/cam tune
Car should've weighed about 3400lbs with me in it

I never got it back to the track after getting it tuned and it only made 356rwhp on the dyno through the big stall.

FWIW, my old setup was a STOCK LS6 CAM with some patriot heads and went 117.0 mph shifting at 6100rpms so I know with the setup mentioned up above being tuned and the 6600rpm shift points it would've went over 120mph.

In 2002:

I think my best was 125 something. Usually around 123-124 in average weather.

Homeported heads, stock intake valves, 1.57 exhaust valves... flow 270cfm
LS6 Intake
224/224 .535 .535 112 cam
EWP
3200 Raceweight
Yank TP4400
Stock Rear 4.10's
Stock 4L60
26" Hoosier QTP's

I guess it doesn't take great head flow to make power. It never saw a dyno in race form.

your gonna have to be around 420rwhp to hit 120. should be very capable, plus your doing some weight reduction s that will help.

I don't think you'll need that much with a good stalled auto.

From what I've gathered it would be impressive to trap 120mph with anything less than 420rwhp and 390/400rwtq

Demonicbird00 I see you are M6 seems to be alot easier for you guys to
MPH better in the same situation

DA is around 1800 to 2300 depending on conditions

I am still seeing alot of A4's with 4.10's that much gears may be too much for me. Would 3.73's cost me any mph over the 4.10's?

11.09 @ 122.The car made 450 ish at the wheels with 3.42's. It now has 4.11 's in the rear. You are right 4 series gears are a bit much for an auto. MT drag radials helped me trap 2mph faster then ET streets. MS3, GM cnc LS6 heads, 3600 stall. The car with driver weighes 3520. Good Luck.

my old car only put down 366 through a th350 and big stall and went 120mph. with 4.10s and a 26 inch tire.

my opinion 4.10s with a 26 inch tire. 4.30s with a 28 inch tire. regardless, your car can handle them. also depends on how high you are turning it. i shifted at 7k.

My old formula ran ~122.XX mph with a 360 ci combo making 385RWHP unlocked and 460RWTQ. 4.11 gears and TP4400 stall in the heat. 230/230 112LSA XER cam.

I think you could run similar for sure with the right gear/converter. My raceweight at the time was about the same as yours. (no AC, front swaybar and no back seats) I had a hardtop as well. (this was over five years ago)
