Man, that looks great!

Couple questions:
1) What tubing notcher are you using on the roll cage tubing? Like it?
2) How do you like the hand control on the TIG? Which one, and do you like it?
3) On your rear X bars on the cage, is it legal to just stop the one bar at the funny car cage right behind the drivers head? Looks like it should continue on thru to the main hoop area.
4) Why meth inj. if you already have an A/W intercooler? Seems redundant.

Anyway, I applaud how much you've accomplished in a little time and in such a small work area! Good job!

Besides the additional air cooling effects the meth. injection provides more detonation prevention and allows higher boost levels, in the end more power.

Its a cheapie I picked up from Harbor Frieght, works like a champ. You will go through some hole saws on this type of cage.

2) How do you like the hand control on the TIG? Which one, and do you like it?
I absolutely love it. You need to choose the correct heat and stick with it. Its a Miller Momentary switch, simple on/off.

3) On your rear X bars on the cage, is it legal to just stop the one bar at the funny car cage right behind the drivers head? Looks like it should continue on thru to the main hoop area.
The X bars are not included in any of the Certs for a 25.5. They are just another method of adding strength to the rear.

4) Why meth inj. if you already have an A/A intercooler? Seems redundant.
I'm using an A/W, I'm not sure if it will help or not but I want to do some testing to see if the meth injection can be used to make even more power than just race fuel alone.

Anyway, I applaud how much you've accomplished in a little time and in such a small work area! Good job!
Thanks man!

Looks great!!!

If you don't mind me asking how much is it costing you for the cage only to do yourself and how many hours to do it?

I am really thinking about building more or a race car soon with another car and would rather do most of it myself.

Going to take a TIG/chassis building class soon I think also.

Not much for updates. I got most of the welding done and tore the setup down to send out for coating. The engine is out and did a couple small things. Main thing that needs to be done is clearance for the wheel 2 wheel fitting that goes into the block for the accusump. The oil pan and block are clearanced, I'll drop the pan off tomorrow to get milled. Its coming slowly but surely.

looks good so far but i would gusset the back of the funny car cage where the x attaches, thats the one that will be absorbing chassis twist and right now its pushing a bar sideways, not strong at all that way, just run a short tube on the same plane to the main hoop. It is a pain to have to keep moving things to make everything fit, when mocking it up think big picture in your head. should be sweet when it gets done

Makes sense on the gusset for the FC to main hoop. I'll knock that out this week. Just got a few small things done.
Pulled and tore the motor down
Clearanced for rod bolts
Clearanced for W2W accusump fitting
Milled oil pan(LS1 pressure flange)
Cleaned all the internals to assemble
Finished welding up the motor plate mounts to the frame rails
Fenders and rear bumper were shipped off to the body shop to start the body work
Doors will be sent at the end of the week

Still need to finish up some of the small sheetmetal work up front and inside the car. Thursday I'll knock out hopefully the front sheetmetal work and start on the back.

Phil, I am really looking forward to the track results of your car... we should be making the same HP and you are about 700lbs lighter... Considering we went 185MPH @ 3475lbs... you might see 200MPH @ 2800lbs!

Thanks man. I'm doing everything I can to get the weight down. Every little piece that can be lightened is done. The only problem with a light race car is you can't race it anywhere in the trim.

You could add balasts to the car and still run well into the 7's... when do you think your 1st track outing will be?

I should have some good progress tomorrow if all goes well.....
Neal Chance Converter

I ordered a test piece of the hose for my water side of the intercooler and its the correct hose. Andy Jensen turned me onto this hose, very light, flexible and won't kink or collapse. The hose is 1.25" ID and was just over a dollar per foot, we had to run the 1.25" while the old cores need only 3/4".

Not really much to post. This week I took some time to make the patch panels for the firewall and finish up some of the engine bay details. I welded all of the holes shut that were not used, patch panels were made for all of the holes 1/2" or bigger and the factory holes for AC/Wipers/ect.

Tomorrow I'll finish up some of the body work on the engine bay and make a few more patch panels for under the hood and the gas door.

Nothing exciting yet....We're making progress very slowly but its coming along...
Side Shot, no more gas door:

Rear trunk, working on bottom panel, Ken did most of the work here

Undershot, panel in place water pump mount

Testing roll cage, some graphite metallic texture paint, very thick seems durable.. any opinions

Firewall work, made patch panels for all the old holes still working on...

Filled in all the holes and sanded flat

Driver side sheetmetal work

Cut up core support need to finish sheetmetal work

Revised turbo mount

Rear panels fit again

Tight clearance
