I'm sure you will be glad you waited for them when the car is running. They are the best out for the LS and that is why we all waited.

Typical Ford. Dodge isn't much better, if you have to take the motor out of a cummins truck like my 08.. you have to pull the body off that too.
BUT, we can get the head off without that hassle, and you can service the crank and bottom end with the motor in the truck..... fwiw.
What happend to the truck Phil? Let me guess, 6.0 and the head gaskets puked.

Good idea. The 6 lite pwrstroke motor's run pretty damn good... just the head gaskets seem to be a constant problem with them. Other then that, if you have an 05 or older that doesn't have any of the emmissions nonsense on it the thing should be happy.
A set of head studs and good gaskets and it should be happy for a long time. Guys I know that run ford trucks, generally do that, and strait pipe the exhaust with them, and put a tuner on and just run it on the lowest power setting. Generally it results in good mileage, good power, and a reliable truck.

Old 7.3 is a different animal, trucks were totally different too. That is the bullitproof engine that all other ford diesel engines will be compared against.. and unfortunately, none have lived up to it since.
Dodge with the cummins, the 12 valve and 24 valve 5.9, were the same deal. New 6.7, would be great if it didn't have all the emmissions junk on it screwing it up.
But, I will give dodge this, their new high output 6.7 is the only diesel pickup for 2012 that doesn't require the urea to pass emmissions, so that's one thing that you won't be screwing around with if you go dodge.
GM, the duramax I hear stories all the time about how great they are, and then I hear a sotry here and there of someone having a nightmare, dash lights up like a christmas tree and the thing dies, and is never right again... I don't have any idea what that's all about, everyone I know of that has had that happen, got the truck fixed and got rid of it RIGHT away. They seem good power wise, but when I hear about one of those stories, and that they pretty much replace every damn thing other then the long block on the truck to get it right again..... It makes me want to stay away.
Good tranny in the chevy though, at least they got that 100%. New tranny dodge uses with the 6.7 has been good too, not really any problems I have heard of. Ford they have been decent... I think that may be where they are lacking in comparison. I don't know a damn thing about the new ford diesel, other then it's a replacement for the 6.4 which was a substantial downgrade from the 6.0 which, was a downgrade from the 7.3

Only big problem I've heard from the Duramax is the injectors taking a dump for certain years, but I don't know **** about the diesel world. That'll change someday, I want to stuff a Cummins or a Duramax into a drag car eventually
