i do that as well. and my rear wing is off as well. that weighs 18lbs plus look at the pics on my webshots. you want the air to close behind the car as fast as possible and by removing the wing it willallow the air to do just that

Sure, whatever the theories are, you achieved a 2mph gain which is good.

If I get around to it next year I'd like to do some aerodynamics work on my car as it is a brick shaped object from 1968. I had planned to do some 100mph coast down accelerometer and speed tests to see what drag I'm actually getting then add a lower air dam and other things and see the difference.

There a probably large gains to be had on my car as it was designed before aerodynamics were of interest to auto makers and was not designed for high speed use.

Demonicbird00 > Sounds good ... weight reduction list says the weight savings from removing the rear spoiler from a TA is 35 lbs ... you sure about the weight being 18 lbs? It's a pretty big piece of material for sure. A little backdraft never hurt the NASCAR boys, so, sounds pretty reasonable to me for drag racing. Of course, I'm sure it becomes more important to them at 160+ mph. I'll try that next time out to the track ... just waiting for it to open back up in a couple weeks.

1968 Ford Cortina II estate.
(They were apparently exported to the USA, but I imagine they were rare and easily forgotten)

I don't think I'll take it that far, just quick stuff I can do at the track before I run. I normally like to run my car the way I street race it. If I was running the Silver State Classic or something like that I might try it though. Do you have any back to back results with just the wing removal?

Yeah, I'd be curious, as well. Any results of dragging with the wing off?

I bet if you could see your flimsy little air dam at 170 it is pointed straight back under the car.

P.S. Often while cruising along at 170, I wonder how my air dam is performing.

Sorry, time for beer.

I have a really really hard time believing taking of the air dam gave you 2mph. I think something else contributed to that.
