first time on slicks
well today was the first time going out on slicks, very unhappy. i was hoping to see improvment across the board. well i couldnt beat any of my best times on the DR, couldnt figure out why i was droping the 60" for i marked the rima nd tire, made a pass and found the line had moved but the thing that buged me the most was how to car handled with the slicks, i set the tires to 10lbs see soon as i hit 2nd gear the car feels like is going to loose control, i made the mistake of trying to counter steer well that just made it a hell lot worst so i got out of it. my friend told me that is how slicks feel. i dont see why people would run slicks if it makes it that unstable up top, compared to a DR. or am i doing something wrong, is 10lbs too low, or am i just being paranoid?

If you were you running stock front wheels and tires then that explains the wild ride...Plus not sure of your setup but being that this is your 1st time on slicks I would say that 10#'s is a bit low...

10 is pretty low but on slicks you will probly find them hooking the best around 14. you will be suprised at how much more stable it is. but slicks dont handle anything like a drag radial. i just switched the other way and its a sunday drive out the back.

Were you running stock front wheels and tires or skinnies?

i just got done watching the vids, the car does down the track stright, but it feels like it all over the place, i think i am going to give it one more shot and try it at 14 or higher and see how i like up, but then aging i dont want to put tire screws in the rims so idk.

10 lbs is too low for pressure. I'm running 14-15 lbs cutting 1.45 60 foot times, and I've seen plenty of people running around the same in the 1.3x range.
Slicks will/can move around a little more than drag radials b/c of a softer sidewall. Try running them around 16-19 to start and make at least 2 hits at each pressure (to eliminate fluke runs and go from there.

It depends on a lot of things, tire size and rim width, along with weight and type of transmission and a million other variables.
I ran a set of slicks on my nova at 6 psi that were 33x16.5s, the other car we run a 31x13 and it uses 10 psi, on my camaro I usually ran around 14 psi on a 26x10.5
The way I always found the tire pressure was I dropped psi till I got the fastest 60ft without loosing much mph or having handling issues, just add air till it feels more stable.

welcome to the world of slicks. after running slicks for many many passes, the radials feel like a sunday drive down the track. if you can hook on the radials, why bother with the slicks?
i also agree that 10 psi, esp in a heavy car, is way way too low. i would run 15-16 psi and see if you hook. i personally would never go below 13 psi, esp in a car over 3300 lbs
