Default Lexan Windows, Who has them?

When I was pulling the motor out today, I noticed that my factory windshield has a 12" crack right up the middle of the glass. I dont want to spend the money for a stock glass and have the weight....so I would rather upgrade to Lexan and lose a few lbs.

I know VFN makes windows for the car. Clear 1 makes a molded set, and so does Percy's Speedglass. The Clear 1 windshield saves you 50 lbs over a stock glass windhsield.

Who is everyone using? Madman? Burkhart? Anyone?

I use ProGlass. They are pre molded. I also have used VFN and they are of the same quality

I called Pro-Glass since they are only about 1 hour from me. VFN is also local too.

Madman, do you remember how much trimming of the windshield is needed to make it fit properly? Whats the easiest way to cut this stuff?

VFN is far cheaper than Pro-Glass, 395 at Pro Glass versus 285 at VFN. But I want to make sure its going to work and not have any issues with it.

I use a jigsaw with a 18 teeth per inch blade. Then I sand to final fit. The all come about 2" to big all the way around.

.

Don't forget, especially for a windshield. There are more than one thickness, & some have a special finish for scratchproofing. Don't just ask price, ask what style you are getting for that price. I got the top of the line for the windshield, and the cheap stuff for the rest. Just a thought.

From Pro-Glass I priced the top of line line coated winshield @ $395

From Clear One I priced the top of the line windshield with the MR-10 coating @ $430.

From VFN I priced the top of the line MR-10 coated windshield @ $285.

What gives on the price difference? VFN and Pro-Glass are local to me (50 miles), and clear one needs to be shipped.

I was going to do a pin on hatch with lexan in the rear but on firebirds you need to make a custom wing of some sort. I am just going to install the lexan in the stock rear hatch. I saw a ta that had it in kanascity but didnt get to talk to him about it.

ls1408cp- do you plan on attaching the hatch and lexan to the stock hinges? I don't think the lexan would be strong enough to support the weigh and if you make it a pin-on the size and overall weight might make it damn near impossible to take off on your own, just a thought.

I use 8x32 countersunk screws and either use nuts or drill and tap all the holes.

I would not be afraid to go the VFN route. We do a lot of business with them and have had great success.

so, you used nuts on the screws? i was planning on just drilling holes through the window and screwing the window to the trim of the hatch.
