Default Rear Fender Height....

i was looking at the car last night and decided ti needed to be lower, how low do you "fast" guys have your cars.

I've got just under 29" from the ground to the fender lip, i was thinking that somewhere around 27" would look perfect.

Car has a 315/60/15 and 29.5x10.5W's

Mines 26 3/4" from the rear fender to the ground, I'll be running a 29 or 30" tire.

One thing you need to watch when you lower it that much is you start running out of shock travel. As is I only have about 2" of downward travel left.

Once I put the 29 or 30 on it I will have to lower it 1.5" more to get it back to the 26 3/4 -27" hight so I will most likely end up running a shorter rear shock.

Just something to consider. As is I think if you run the 10" rear coilover springs you'll most likely run them with no adjustment, mine are lifted about 1" now so I may not even run an adjustable spring perch.

thanks for the info....

the rear shock used on the f-body's are already pretty short do they make a shorter one? that will work?

i should be good at 27" then. if need be ill go to a rear coil over since i plan on having it back halved and 4 link during the fall anyways. Anyone else?

Mine is 26 3/4 now with a tire that is about 27.5" If you go with a 29.5" tire you'd have to lower it another inch lower than I have mine now, if you want it 27" you'd have to lower it about 3/4" which will leave you a little over 1" of downward travel.

Wait till you lower the car and get the tire on it, then you'll see how much room you have, then you can figure out how long you'll need it to be if you go shorter, and yes they do make shorter shocks than we have now.

I think they are about 13" collapsed and almost 22" extended so it would be considered a long shock.

I might try this one after I lower it and see how much I have left.

# 247-2755 Rear Drag Shock
Extended Length: 16.41''
# Collapsed Length: 10.44''
# Diameter: 1.63''

So if I end up with a shock 14" at ride hight, I would have 3.5" downward travel and 2.5" upward travel which should be fine.

Just a general example.

if im going to buy new shocks im just going to go coilover. ill see how much the front lowers once the motor is in.

I think mines a touch lower than yours...haven't measured it directly...though I did measure the shock height and it had acceptable travel for a 7" shock...

I took a piece of 1.5x1.5 angle iron, drilled 2 holes in it. One to match up the original shock hole and the other being lower. Laid it over the existing lower shock mount and welded it on. No need for shorter shocks. You can also make 3 holes to go even lower if needed.

Also when you lower it that far be careful, you lose all the upward angle on your lower control arm. Keep that in mind. I am trying to figure out a way around that now. Mine is minitubbed with a 325/50 or 28x10.5W. It has LCA relocation brackets...but the tire bulge will not allow me to but another set on.

My rear ride height is 27.5" to the top of the fender lip. It sits down just on top of the 28x10.5W

Mine would tuck the top of a 29.5" tire about 2.75".

FASTFB can you take a photo of how you did yours? I want to see what it looks like.

My shock mounts? Here ya go.......... Its actually a 2x2 piece of angle and I cut one side down.

BTW, this is with the car on stands and the weight sitting on the rear, how does my LCA angle look?

It's hard to tell how it is angled, how about an angle finder?

Also you have to know where the torque arm is in relation to the LCA's.

They could be level or pointed slightly up and if the torque arm is up too high the intersection point would be out in front of the car.

Someone needs to make an intersection plotter for f-bodies that allows you to enter in LCA bracket hole hight, LCA length bolt to bolt, front bracket hole hight and then rear torque arm bracket hole heights and front torque arm mounting hole heights.

You could map out your intersections once you measured the location heights and lengths in a matter of seconds.
