Default anyone do a splash gaurd and inner wheel well delete?

by the splash gaurds i mean the ones forward of the front tiers on each side and each plastic inner wheel well. i got a few questions.

How much do you drive the car?
Is it safe to drive in the rain?
Will it affect anything?

i am only considering this because when i bought my Z28 i took off the driver's side inner wheel well to fix a crashed fender structure. i put the inner fender along the side of my house and it warped in the sun. putting it back on was a b***h and it still didn't align like my dad's other Z28.

Yes I did while it was still a daily driver. Wish I hadn't. I had to clean the hell out of that space where your door hinges are constantly. When it rained it allowed all the crap off of the road to spit up in there.

same here, I pulled mine for weight reduction but a lot of the pit roads around here are gravel or slightly graveled covered dirt, and just driving up to the lanes I would get about 1# of stones and crap up in that doorjam area, I put them back in because it wasn't worth it to me to clean out the doorjams while waiting in the staging lanes...

Exactly why I will never remove them, I had them off, took one look @ where all that crap would end up, and it went right back on. No way do I need that headache.

Also if you get stuff in there while driving and try and open the door it will break the fibreglass in the bottom corner of the door, ask me how I know...

***EDIT***
I found a few old pics right after it happened, back when the car still had the side moldings...

I have my finger in the hole to show how big it actually is...

My car doent have them and every bit of grit and grime gets in the hinges. I am looking at making some covers out sheet metal.

You can easily make some block off plates out of thin alum. That's what I did, works pretty well. Little tight working in there, had to use epoxy in one spot.

I might look into the thin alum. thing but at the time I just thought it was easier to put the liner back in, then deal with more breaks in the door. I was a little pissed and never really thought about much more then stopping the crap from gather in there, and the liner was just sitting there so I threw it back in...

How much do those inner wheel well liners weigh? If I remember they're not much. Almost doesn't seem worth in on a car that sees a lot of street time.

they might be about 1.5-2# per side, so if you are looking to loose every little bit then yeah look into it, otherwise just leave them on there...

well like i said.. mine are warped. i tired giving them a little heat and i managed to get the top and the front 7mm screws in but not the one on the bottom of the door hinge. that one is about 2in off. also the way it is now, the front part of the inner fender doesn't align to the splash gaurd under the DRL light.

I have left the inner wheel wells in but removed the splash guards long ago. I even have my K&N filter just hanging out there in the breeze.
Never had a problem.
