Cheap and easy upgrade, one of the best mods I've done, (all four corners and 1/2 inch on the rear). It's a safety issue and well worth the money...

I have alot better idea, don't run the spacer.

Spacers, unless they are welded to the wheel, are a serious no no with a drag car, I would never NEVER do that.

Stock size studs are 12..x1.5 thread, ARP sells them in a couple different lenths.

Take it a step further, put 5/8 on the rear and be done with it.

well i have to run the spacers for my Z06 rims to fit properly and for my 315s to not slam the wheel well everytime i hit a bump

so it's an inch and a half of thread? so for a half inch spacer, i should probably go with a 2in stud, right? lol i know that sounds like a dumb question...just making sure

oh, i forgot to say. my trans am isnt a drag car at all. it's definately street, but i have the 315mm rear tires with staggered rims. partly for the looks, but mostly for the traction since right now my rear tires are 225... O.o

i need the spacers to fit the rims so i can get rid of these worthless 225s

They make a 2.5 inch and a 3.25 inch long stud.

I have a set of oem z06 wheels myself, and I was able to get them to fit with a 305 tire with no spacer. I had to beat the wheel well in down by the control arm and cut the bump stop off, but it fit. I don't think the 315 tire should need that much of a spacer, maybe, MAYBE a 1/4 inch one but no more then that, or the tire's proabbly gonna hang out of the fender.

Get out the 5 lb hammer, and a piece of steel pipe and start whacking, and your spacer issues should just about go away.

lol ive been considering the BFH, but it's the bumpstop that's the big problem... and i'd rather not cut that off.

plus after reading what happened to that guy who had the first post about his factory studs snapping...i want some stronger ARP studs. the spacer would make it a lot easier.

Cut the bump stop off. I found that when at the track that the car would hit them (lowered about an inch from stock) and that was causing the car to unload like crazy. Pulled the bump stops off, went .2 faster immediately.

Unless you commonly have 4 people in the car I'd cut them right off. If you think you need them, paint the stop with a silver grease pen and drive around, if the car never touches them with your normal driving, get rid of them.

Alright, i just dont have anything i could use to cut the bumpstop off with. What kind of shop will do that kind of work? firestone got me my tires, but they wont mess with anything else. and then i'd still have to do the BFH treatment if i didnt get spacers, and i'd rather not do that myself since i dont quite understand it.

is it possible to get a spacer small enough to keep the same studs and not have to do the BFH?

well how do i know if it touches them with my regular driving? and what would happen if i hit a large enough bump, or had too much weight in my car and i didnt have the bump stop?

car would bottom out without the stops.

If you get a silver grease pen, and paint the bump stop where it will touch the rear, and drive around for a couple days, normal driving and whatnot, then check the rear, see if there's a mark on the rear where the silver grease touched, that will tell you if the car hits the bump stops or not.

A sawzall will cut the mount off. You may be able to just unbolt the bumpstop itself, that you'd have to check.

Do a search on the BFH mod on here, there's pictures of what people do. If you jack the car up, put the jackstands on the rear so it's compressed like when it's on the ground and put a couple jackstands on the front, then you can take the tire off, remove the spacer and see where it's hitting (might involve getting a friend to hold the tire. Once you can see where it's hitting, get a steel pipe, and just put the pipe on the body (make sure car is safely jacked up) and just start whacking away.

alright, thanks, i'll talk to some people. but since i dont take my car to the track (at least not yet) ill probably go with the spacers and studs rather than risking bottoming out without bumpstops.

you said the stock studs are 1.5in of thread, right?

I broke my Moser studs off on 17" Nittos and stock wheels. Leaving off my transbrake on motor I could hook those tires and pull the front wheels a couple inches, so with the right setup those tires will break parts. I went with the 5/8 studs and never looked back. Glad you and the car werent hurt!
