Default how fast. What et is required to have a rollbar/rollcage?

How fast does one have to be going at what ET that is required that they get a rollbar/roll cage? What type 6pt 10pt 12pt etc? This may sound stupid but what exactly is the difference between a rollbar and a rollcage?

theres somethin between 11.50 and 9.99 i belive, i could be wrong. But i think at 135 + you need a parachute as well. But this is only if your going to a nhra event, im sure that if you run 140 mph on a random sunday your not gunna get thrown out.

Do a search on here. There were about 15 threads about this last month.

But since you started another one, maybe Derek can lock this and start a new one with this info.:

A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

If the floor and/or firewall has been modified, then a full roll cage is required beginning at a 10.99 e.t. A full roll cage is required in any vehicle running 9.99 seconds or quicker, and any vehicle running 135 mph or faster (regardless of e.t.). The roll cage must be constructed of minimum 1 5/8 o.d.x .118 mild steel tubing, or 1 5/8 x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

The roll cage of any vehicle running 9.99 or quicker, or 135 mph or faster, must also be certified by NHRA every 3 years, and have a serialized sticker affixed prior to participation.

Default cages

this is just a little paragraph I made a while back, about pts, of cages and rollbars[under 10.0 you do need a cage] plus what was said above
the right way to find out what you guys need to no is contact your division headquarters be it nhra/ihra they are the ones who make the rules ,or contact a competent shop who build cars ,also a lot of guys are calling roll bars cages this is also wrong [this is quite common]so when some one calls for quote first we have to find out what they are talking about.
here's a paragraph I made for the fast ls1 site [it is also post in ls1 tech a few times as people asked ] allot of people are using the wrong terminology] ,a cage is a cage and a roll bar is a roll bar[a roll bar can have 5pts 6pts 7pts and8 pts,a cage can have 6 pt ,8,10 12pts] a lot of people call up for cages and their trying to ask for roll bars its a common mistake
,most cages are actually are 6pt unless 2 diagonal bars go to tunnel or frame connectors[before everyone jumps on me the 2 side bars usually go to the front uprights so unless you have the 2 diags like I said and they are mandatory when a cage is put on plates, if its a chassis car[ ie chevelle, malibu, corvetteanything with a full frame under it]the cage then has to be mounted to the chassis and dosnt require the 2 diags to tunnel. what else is needed are ,a window net, padding anywhere drivers helmet can contact, and the installer should put tabs for required shoulder harness [so its bolted to spine bar and cannot slip off you in case of accident]and if you go faster than 9.99 a chassis cert is required to 8.5,than after that it is a spec car i.e. 25-5 8.5-7.50 3600lbs max,25-2 7.50-6.00 3200lbs max, and so on, that should cover the basics hope this helps. bob
