Default Optima battery and relocation.

OK I just installed my optima battery today and want to know wich is the best relocation kit for this battery. I've searched and found some nice battery trays but wich one does the Optima Red top fit the best in? I also wieghd my stock battery and it was 31 LBS and the Optima was 33.5 LBS. I was gonna get a light wieght battery but decided this was the smart choice since I drive it all the time and stuff. Another conscern I had was wether I need an enclosed battery tray for this type of battery. I think I read on a search that I dont with the Optima but just wanna be sure. Thanks for the help guys!

you need a battery box that is enclosed and vented outside the car like this one
you will also require a battery shutoff switch

I got the summit nhra approved "premium" plastic battery relocation kit.

Great price, the box will fit about any battery. I think it's big enough to fit 3 of my small batteries lol. It's the lightest enclosed box your're going to find.

Great thanks guys. But where does the battery shut off switch have to be? Does it have to go through the back off the car. I mean this isnt a race car so can I keep it inside the trunk?

I had the plastic battery box in the rear well and the tech man at NHRA strip did not like it.Because there is no metal wall between the trunk and the passenger compartment.(2000 Formula)Said get a metal box.
Taylor now has an aluminum box that is vented and is specific for an optima battery works great.Tech man said OK
Used a Jegs cut off switch mounted on the bumper cover in the center of the licence plate area, make sure you run the alternator wire to this also.
Thanks

The point of the battery box is that it takes the place of a firewall. Basically in the NHRA rulebook it says you can use a NHRA approved battery box in leau of a firewall. So one or the other is fine.

So I would have to run a switch through the bumper then? If so does it have to be a T handle or can it be a simple switch that I can hide easily just above the plate?

Either switch is fine, you just have to clearly mark it.

I went with the Moroso blue battery box, every tech guy in the country probably will reconize it as the approved plastic battery box, main reason I went with that.

I Have A Question. I Just Moved The Battery To The Rear Of My Car. I Bought The Kit From Summit. The Positive Cable You Attatch To The Positive Up Front And Them Run To The Rear. How Do You Do The Negative Cable? Do I Just Ground To The Body At The Back? Also What About The Negative Up Front. Do I Ground That Somehow?

Ground at the back on the body. Ground the engine up front to frame.

Do you have a gound from the motor as well? I used the stock black end and cut the end off and put a 6 gauge lug on the end and then ran that to the frame. However my car resets the memory everytime I start it??? help???

I had a big ground lug welded onto the plate the rollbar is welded to, that's where I grounded the battery.

If for some reason I have a single computer type problem, I will run a dedicated ground from the PCM right to the battery, but I don't think it will be a problem. Motor has 2 ground cables on it, plus a motor plate that's bolted right to tabs that are welded to the frame, I don't think grounding the motor is a problem anymore.
