Default fire extinguisher

When will it be required to have a fire extinguisher mounted in a car at the track?

I have never herd of that being required. But on that note its not a bad thing to have in your car anyway.
call your local track.

Not required, but it sure would save you a whole lot of money should you ever need one.

BTW I have two in my car.

I'm with Black. I've never heard of it being required, but I wouldn't want a seriously modified setup without one. Personally, I went with an extinguisher and a built in system.

I think a fire system is required at one point. Many of the 7/8 second headsup classes require you to have one

u dont have to have one, but you can get them pretty small and light vs the huge ones.. im getting a smaller one to mount to the car or rollbar somewhere, u never know when i wire will short out and melt, that happened to me 1500 miles on the car like it came from the factory, it got in the carpet and melted it pretty good one reason why i dont have carpet anymore.. i was able to put it out with my hands, yes it hurt badly, roll the window down so i could see and get on down the track and up the return road and get parked before i could get out of the car. it was almost ugly. just faulty factory wiring i was told... wires were bare and touching or something that weren't supposed to be and it caused the area behind the dash down by my feet to get really hot, so said the dealership

You're right Dave... with a little googling I found a copy of the 1999-2000 NHRA rules online: http://findfastcars.com/NHRARules.html

"On-board fire-extinguisher system is mandated under certain Class Requirements."

Personally, I saw it as cheap insurance. I went with the Firecharger AFFF setup covering the fuel cell and engine, and a halon extinguisher for the interior. Tried to make it look good as well...

I got a fire extinguisher off Ebay for really really cheap and it's fine. I'll post a pic of what it looks like later on. To me it's good insurance. it cost me like $30 total and i had a friend recharge it for free. It came partially charged but with the wrong powder. A and B grade, not A,B,C grade etc. I mounted it right to my crossbar on my rollbar

As mentioned, most TNT and bracket classes don't require one, but it's good insurance. I have one in the Nova.
