Default 26 or 28 tires

I was wanting to know if someone is running 26 inch tire, and they change to a 28 inch tire will it help or hurt the 60ft and 1/8 mile E.T. Has anyone tested or know someone that has made the change..OR what do you all think....

I'm in the same boat right now. I might have to switch to 28's to keep from bouncing off the rev limiter going through the 1/4 traps.

Not sure what you have your limiter set at but I run a Billingsly Racing Strange 9 inch and use a turbo 400 and have my limiter set at 7,200 and go through the traps at 6,600 MPH in the 1/4 and run 10.75 at 123 with a 1.41 sixty foot on a 26 inch tire ET Drag.

I would think unless you are way down in the 10's with you setup and you maybe I did not really look at all your details you will be fine.

As far as the original question I have not had any real issues with traction on the 26 inch tire unless the track is having problems the 28 is a little more forgiving. However if you engine and or gear is not up to the task of carry the bigger tire down the track you may gain in the sixty foot with traction and loss everywhere else due to the extra strain.

If you are running out of RPM's or cannot hookup then the 28 maybe the option, but if you have traction and the RPM's to carry the distance stay with the 26 IMO. You will have fitment issues with the 28.

One other option would be to use the MT ET Drag in a 28X9X15 which is actually a 27 inch tire. Then you don't have to worry about the tire hitting the wheel well. You need an 8 inch wide tire!

I hope this helps!

Sounds like I'm gonna just have to take it to the track and see what happens. I'm running 255/50/16 M/T dr's, and my limiter is set at 6800rpm. It's gonna be tight making through the traps without tappin the limiter. I'm starting to wish I'd just stuck with 3.73's.

If you are having problems hooking up, then it might help your 60'. Otherwise, it would probably hurt it since you are essentially changing the gear ratio to a higher gear. Like, if you have a 3.73 ratio, and go from a 26" tire to a 28" tire, it would be like going to a 3.42 gear on a 26" tire if that makes sense.

I've seen plenty of cars running 26" tires at the track and running 10's for what its worth..

How well do the 275/50 15" tires fit when on 8" rim?

A better choice for a proper contact patch is a 9 or 10" wheel.
