Default car won't hook, even on slicks!!!

i need some help getting my car to hook. i've got a 12-bolt with 4.11 gears and am running hoosier 26x10x15 slicks. i've got bmr boxed lca's and sfc. our track here sucks (i don't even think they prep it, plus it's all radial tires anyway) and i spin pretty bad coming out of the hole. my best 60' was a 1.73 and they ranged up to 1.85. i don't think that's very good at all for the mods i have. i want to get in the 1.5-1.6 range.

my question is what can i do to get better traction out of the hole. i'm going to get some hals eventually (havn't brought myself to spend $700 on them yet) but what else can i do in the mean time. will lca relocation brackets help? i'm at stock ride height. i'm not really sure how this helps as i don't understand suspension stuff at all. i was also thinking of putting an air bag in the right rear, will that help me out some? any suggestions are welcome. TIA, Kit

What PSI do you run the slicks at? Do you have a line lock? How good are your burn outs? What clutch do you have and at what RPM do you leave?

i ran the slicks all the way from 17psi to 10psi (didn't make a whole lot of difference). i don't have a line lock but i would do some pretty good smokey burnouts. one of my friends had his video camera there and i did a couple that were just silly long and it didn't make a difference. i'm running a spec stage 3 and leaving at around 5500-6000 rpms.

Hey Kit, I've seen your car before but it hasn't been anytime recently. I'm friends with most of the Tulsa f-body guys, and I know Tyler pretty well. Anywho, make sure you're not doing TOO long of a burnout, if you get em too hot they'll actually get almost liquidy and slippery instead of sticky hot. Just a suggestion, doubt it helps

thanks for the tip. i didn't do to many of those really long burnouts, just a couple for the camera normally i just get them smoking a little bit and let off the brake. it all seemed the same though. i think a lot of it could be that the tulsa track dosn't hook for crap, but i'd like to make my car hook there anyway because that's where i do most of my racing. plus, i figure if i can get it to launch there, i'll be set wherever i go.

Front QA1/HAL's will help a lot, if your track is not prepped well.

TIR will only be prepped well if there's a big race the same weekend. Otherwise its just a mildly prepped track with hooking issues. Hell even my FWD car with soft compound tires won't even hook and its just a weiner V6

If the track isn't prepped with the heat forget about it.

Do your burnout in second gear and bring the revs to about 6000rpm during the burnout. Leave it spinning for 8-10 seconds and then let off the brake and let the tires spin forward till they BITE.
Then stage, bring revs to 6000rpm. On the third yellow stomp the gas to the floor while at the same time lifting your foot off the clutch as quickly as possible.

Cheers,
Chris

Well thats better then me. The Best 60 ft. I got so far was 1.75 on my 26x11.5 QTP's. The local track around here kind of sucks to. But I have some LCA brackets in my room so I hope they will help out some once their on the car.

Hey Kit, The QA1's helped me alot at the Tulsa Track. I'm cutting low 1.6's all the time now, also how old are the slicks that are you running?

thanks for the suggestions guys. i'm thinking i'll get some lca brackets for right now since they're cheap and then get some hals once i decide to spend $700 on shocks. it sounds like the QA1's will really help me out since TIR usually isn't prepped all to much.

ken,
i just bought the slicks at the beginning of this season, so they're pretty new. i'm also working on getting some 15x10 prostars so i can run a 26x12.5x15 MT ET Drag. hopefully with this and some suspensions stuff i can really get the car to leave hard.

thanks again guys

So far 3 clicks past the softness setting.
Basically turn **** counter clockwise than clockwise 3 clicks. I have stock shocks on the rear.
