Default Hood flew off, crazy things at the strip . . .

I was at Union Hill(Nashville's 1/8 mile strip) a couple of years ago and there was a very quick, built fox body mustang(ran low 7's) directly in front of me. He had his big cowl, fiberglass hood up in the staging lanes . . .

Both me and him are in the right lane, he's racing an even faster Nova(mid 6's) in the left lane. I see him leave the line, the Nova leaves soon after. About mid track the Mustang's hood flew up, then ripped completely off, flew over the Nova by a few inches and shattered into a billion pieces. Craziest thing I've ever seen, the damn hood flew over the other car and by some miracle didn't hit it.

I trapped 139 last night, I was waiting for either my hood or T top to fly off. I bent one of the washers where the pin goes on my hood from the hood trying to come up. Next time I'll slap some duct tape on that ****.

I had one fly off when I test drove my car. The thing just got sucked completely out when I missed 3rd gear.

A guy I know had a t-top fly off his turbo camaro as he made a pass. It flipped way up in the air and landed softly in the grass next to the track. Not a scratch on it.

Very! Atleast when you don't latch them down and accelerate to a high rate of speed!

I can see my hood vibrating on the windshield when i'm trapping 140ish..... I have 13 dzus fasteners on it but unfortunately for me I have the LT1 front end and the headlight area allows air to duct underneath the hood...... I imagine at some point I will need to do something to keep my hood where it is.....

Been there done that. Just as I crossed the finish line at 149, top skin of the hood came apart and went up in the air at least 150ft. Harwood was awesome about it, they sent me a brand new hood.

Sad to say, but yes. There is a way to adjust the T-Top, I also lock mine always. Also keeping the car solid, i.e. SFC's or even a cage will help stiffen the car from twisting.

a local speed shop, the owner has been tinkering with his Blue CHevy Chevelle Wagon, BB w/ Blower and a host of other stuff, had the Harwood split like that, and you saw where they glued it. They also replace and paid for the paint!

Happens more often then you might think, most times its due to the driver not checking the hood. On RARE occasion its due to age and stress on the fiberglass.
