Nice thread, it goes to show how great the stock cam is at making torque below 4k. Go with a good size cam and you'd be 480+rwhp. I'm surprised at the gains with no belt, I've seen short-belts bypassing the powersteering showing no track gains but maybe it does...since you said no belt I guess it's safe to run with no alternator??

No way in hell would you run without an alternator...there is just no way the battery would be able to keep the coils firing, the fuel pump going, in addition to the water pump and other random electrical stuff.

Not true, my alternator was putting out a whopping 2 amps. My battery (Optima) kept things running smooth for 50 miles, abount an hour. I am sure it would keep up with WOT ignition for a pass or two. I've also seen PS pumps, alternators, compressors, and water pumps on their way out drag a motor down. With an electric WP, I can totally see picking up noticeable power yankin the belt.

I still wanna see what a stock cam can do with AFRs and a FAST combo - better yet, LS6 cam...I may have to do this myself.

How much will they be doing the heads for? Their site doesn't list the LS1's yet.

See if that helps, I think there's pricing on there. If not, just give them a call.

I havent made a pass at the track with it off, but I have made 5 back to back pulls previously on another dyno with the belt off with no drop off in power at all. I should be able to make a pass or two I figure without the alternator.

It was done back when the AFRs first came out... Z06... LS6 motor with just the AFRs did something like 410 or 415... no FAST. If you want a really stealthy motor...

Im not surprised at all. Good set of heads and stock cam can make those numbers. Its not the norm cause you dont see many people doing it. My TA made 385 with a LS6 cam and some home ported 5.3 heads. A/F was 11:1 or lower too.

You've got one impressive set up here sir, epecially for a budget cylinder head. Any idea on what they flow? You really have me thinking about builing something around my stock cam in the attick.

I did a back to back test witht he short belt mod. it was worth a solid mph on my trap speed. I went from 118 to 119 the very next pass.

I guess I stand corrected on the no alternator needed thing...don't think I'll try it though.
