Wow, that's a very impressive gain for a basically free mod that required next to no work. That owner must be happy as hell.

will the FTRA add more hp than raising the lower part of the intake?

what if i add FTRA and raise the lower part of the intake at the same time, will that add more power than just raising the lower part of the intake?

Doesn't the FTRA seal off the front of the lid? Not too familiar with it. But if that's the case then I don't think it would make a difference. I'm probably wrong though.

if you raise the base while running the FTRA then your just making a bigger gap for air to escape and further taking away from what ever real ram air effect the FTRA has. Im thinking the large opening of the FTRA will be sufficient on its own. who knows though

The point of the FTRA is to raise air pressure in the area in front of the filter. Any other holes or openings will take away form that. For dyno purposes the FTRA alone may hurt over another setup but is proven on the road and at the track.

It's a different version of the Fast Toys Ram Air setup made by a different company. It works under the same principle of picking up high pressure area from the front spoiler. The knock-off is made out of high impact plastic instead of stainless steel. The FTRA is still the gold standard for ram air kits, but some people want the same performance for less money.

Patrick,

is the blackwing that bad of an intake? or just on the fbody? I have one that came on my C5 when I bought it. The filter is pretty huge and its decent exposed, but its definately worth upradeing for an extra 16-20hp if it is thats the case.

It's just an F-body thing. The F-body blackwing is definitely better than stock. It was the intake lid included in the SLP 345hp package from the factory.

I have a fasttoys 85mm lid on my car now(the one with the buldg). I just paid for my upd lid and will dyno lid vs lid in 4 to 6 weeks. Not going to the dyno for that reason, but since i'm there might as well do the lid test too. I'll let you all know.
