Default Before/After on a Gear change C5

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has done a before and after on just a gear change with a vette. Specifically a 3.42 to 3.90. I'm guessing about 5rwhp difference but just want to see if anyone has actually done it.

I was talking to one dyno operator who said that gears that are very low (numerically) can also hurt the hp readings. Any truth to that?

Well HP is calculated from the measured torque. So any drop in TQ would change HP as well.

I have seen that also, we took one car from a 2.73 to a 3.73 and it picked up 4-5rwhp It was actually done on the same day too.

Huh, so there is technically an "optimal" gearing for dyno results then? I'm guessing the Supra guys have it all figured out.

Interesting aside for a Vette. DTE Powertrain requires the use of 75W-140 gear oil. Redline told me that the loss in going from 75W-90 to 75W-140 in a chassis dyno would be 3%-4%. Thats a lot if you use 400 hp as a baseline. I have no proof but those are the numbers they gave me. Phil at DTE might have more information, but I guess my message is that the gear oil requirements on a DTE Vette may play a role as well.
