Default Professional products vs Fast vs LS6 intake numbers

Hey guys so i got my LS1 out of my 89 FC RX7 setup on an engine dyno on sunday and also figured that while we were at it we might as well test the Professional Products intake manifold (mine) vs the LS6 manifold and the Fast manifold

the motor is a stock bottom end 2001 LS1 with the following
TSP MS3 cam
ARP rod bolts
stage 2.5 5.5L ported.CNC'd heads combo from TSP with upgraded valvetrain
Professional Products 96mm intake manifold
RevXtreme 95mm throttle body
36# flow matched injectors
JTR 1 7/8" longtube ceramic coated headers
tuned on HPTuners prosuite

made 526HP @ 6900rpm and 447FT/LBS @5200rpm... I'd say thats pretty decent for about 3500 bucks canadian, i am pleased with the numbers... and going in my 2700lbs car it will be a rocket!

so after we finished the tuning on my setup we figured we'd test against the other common intakes since it only takes like 20 min to change them out so they could be all dyno tested under the exact same conditions

here are the results

stock LS6 intake with stock LS1 78mm throttle body - 517HP 450TQ (blue line) about 200 bucks

my setup listed above (red line) about $800 w/ manifold and TB

Fast 92mm intake with 90mm throttle body - 535.6HP 459.2TQ (black line) about $1200 or more w/ manifold and TB

what do you guys think?

Good report. Looks like the FAST intake is way better at producing power under the curve.

Nice info, but why choke off the LS6 w/ a 78mm TB, when the other two were tested using much larger throttle bodies?

Ide love to see an LS2 intake vs the Professional products. From what ive seen the ls2 makes more power.

Nice comparo, but I have to say that LS6 intake is doing very well even if it has a stock 78mm TB! Would love to see the LS6 opened to 90-95mm one day against those intake. I know its been done, but never in a good comparison like that...

I am satisfied with the excellent comparison. Some people are never happy, but I am quite impressed with the effort. Engine dyno numbers a LOT HIGHER then chassis for sure. Still an excellent comparison.

thank you for the great comparison!

I'm amazed how the fast builds power everywhere, usually people say they lose power down low, I know my car felt stronger everywhere, especially above 4k rpm

would be awesome to see the tpis ls6 and ported fast thrown into the mix too, but this was awesome either way!

Great comparison. Looks like the Pro Products can hold it's own above the LS6 and compared to the FAST, despite what the common concensus is among this board. Seems to me that a LS6<10hp<FAST difference is easily worth the money.....This coming from a ported FAST owner.

Once factor I would have liked to see was the heat differences, to prove/disprove the Pro Products heat soak issues, or lack there of.

I would agree if the power gain were only up top...my car is a daily driver so having that extra power above 4k instead of above 5500 is a plus to me.

Now the cost of a fast is retarded...mine was bought used for $500, otherwise I would have a ls6 instead.

ya the reason for the 78mm TB on the LS6 manifold was cause we didnt prepare for this test and kinda just decided to do it with what we had lying around the shop after tuning my setup

and as far as the heat soak issue... my motor was run hard for about 2 hours doing the tuning with the Pro products manifold on before doing this comparison so it was really very warm haha... whereas the other two were nice and cool and run as soon as they were strapped on

no doubt the FAST is far superior to the other two over the entire curve. however i do think the the pro products may have made a few more ponies if it had been cool like the other two... either way its some good info i thought i'd post up since i know it has always been a big question for many LS guys
