Default TSP heads n cam

ok well, long story short ive got a stock bottom end and i am getting ready to order my prc stage 2.5 5.3l heads and a cam package......

my cam choice was the 233/239
i called tsp and the guy told me that that cam was a nitrous cam and if i just wanted a stout N/A motor not to get it because i could make better power with another cam

so.. now im stuck on one of these 3 cams.
Torquer v2
Torquer v3
MS3

what kind of power can i make with this setup?
what do you guys have?
how high do you have to turn them to make max power

I have a similar setup... stock 99 bottom end, GTP stage (whocares but bigger valves) 5.3L heads with a TSP 225/225 112lsa cam.

Originally made 429whp/403wtq on the fresh build. 40k later with no maintanence except oil/filters it threw a valvespring. With new springs and a tune it made 414whp/384wtq. I had dual springs on it when one went, saved the motor as the inner spring kept the valve from falling in, but must have been a bit lazy as it bent a pushrod. Not sure if there was lifter damage, seat damage, etc, but will be redoing the valvejob/heads in the next month and see if we can't reclaim that power.

Sorry, that went kind of long. The point being, you don't need a massive cam to make 400whp with worked 5.3L heads and a good tune.

I say custom cam. I've never been happier with my motor then after the custom cam from vengeance racing was installed. More power, better manners, a lot less valvetrain noise, and a stock like idle. I know its hard to believe but no BS. You'll definately do better running a cam that is spec'd around your setup. Good luck.

Read My sig below.. My cam is currently for sale, I am building a stroker right now and going to go with another custom cam to supplement the added extra cubic inches.

The 233/239 camshaft will work n/a. I think what the guys are trying to explain over the phone is with the engine dyno testing we've done the Torquer V3 would probably be a better option for your application. With any of the camshafts you choose we'll setup the heads & mill them to meet your requirements & the p/v clearances.

Dont forget about the PRC 215 & 227 heads also, they're not a lot more money, but make awesome power!

I ran an older version of the 233/239 TSP cam with 62cc AFR 205's and LS6 intake/ported stock TB with FMS red top injectors. Made 439rwhp/385rwtq with 7100rpm redline. A bit soft below 4K but from 4-7K it pulls like a madman. Did a 128.3mph best with this setup at about 3,000lbs with driver.

I liked it..... but a little more midrange would've been better. Run as much compression as you can. ie mill the heads and/or run a thinner head gasket. Check PtV clearance. I milled my heads and had to flycut the pistons (did it myself with a rented tool).

I'm running the 233/239 TSP cam and 5.3 PRC Stg 2.5 heads, and it works fine, even with a lightweight flywheel, however my car only weighs 2750.

No dyno results yet. have plans for this spring.
