finally got some numbers on my 408:confused:
so i finally got tuned after a year and a half, dont know whats really going on but it only put down 492hp/464trq and flatend out by 5700rpm. ill try to post a graph and a video as soon as possible but just would like to see any thoughts on why i may only be putting down these numbers.
the car has a hke408 11.0-1 comp, TFS235's a pat g custom cam with a 247/254 623/623 112+4, yella terra UL, morel linkbar roller lifters, 1 7/8" hooker LT's, 3" cutout (opened on dyno), ported FAST92 and NW96tb ftra 104mm lid, asp ud pulley, speed density, 6speed w/9" and 3.90's. thanks in advance

I'm using that same cam, on a 113+2, and have an almost flat powerband from 6100-6900rpm, where I have it rev limited.
With 3.90s and a stick, I'm wondering why the 112+4. What is the vacuum
at WOT? Tuning that cam SD is some work. At this point, you haven't said much about the datalog, so might be interesting to take a look at that first.
Plug health? What do they look like? Oily ? carbon foul? white?

Well, first off better track it to see what its worth. MPH is certainly a good indicator of HP. Its hard to diagnose without a datalog w/A/F, but...

What's weird is your dyno graph looks normal aside from making peak power early. And your car definitely pulls strong bro.
Starting from the valve train on down isn't a bad idea. But at least you're able to get on the car now.

well something is obviously wrong somewhere. that cam shouldn't peak untill probably 6100-6300 so you need to find the problem and take it back to make sure your afr and tune is where it needs to be before thrashing on it.valve float may be the culprit, what does the graph look like @5700,smooth or wavy ? 5700 is way to early to peak for that cam, surely it is not a tooth off though on the timing chain.hmmmm.....

That same setup has made around 560-580rwhp on lots of dynos. You mentioned a 3" cutout. Hoefully, that's 3" cutouts per side. A single 3" pipe is really small for an engine of that power level considering you have dual 3-3.5" header collectors.

i still just have a single 3" cutout on mine. it is a restriction but not that bad, just guessing i maybe could possibly pick up 8-10 rw more with 2 (just a guess) but that would probably be stretching it. the peaking @ 5700 is the issue. u guys get that fixed and it will put out the numbers.

Couple of other things...
Were you able to verify that the TB was open 100% at WOT?
Were you able to log the MAP reading to see if you were pulling a vacuum at WOT?
Were you able to confirm at you were firing on all 8 cylinders? You'd be amazed how many people have a dead hole because of a bad ignition or injector connection.

i know the single 3" is a restriction but money is a problem as of right now. but im pretty sure its not a 50+ hp issue, trying to get what i need to get that fixed. in the mean time i will try and get the pushrods looked at and hope thats all the problem is. i hope i can get it looked at soon as im rather disappointed to say the least as of right now. ill keep this thread updated as i find things out.
thanks for all the opinions and options to look at, that is exactly what i was looking for when making this thread.

the single 3" cutout is definitely NOT the problem. my junk makes 536 rw (SINGLE 3" cutout) with a lesser combo than his and peaks higher with a smaller cam . that combo should peak somewheres around 6200-6300 or so.even with some restriction it will still peak there, just have less power.

You have been working on this car for far too long. It's time to actually enjoy it...

5700 is way to early to be peaking especially in that setup. I'd suspect something in the valvetrain is not correct. Im no expert but Im betting thats where your problem is lurking.
