Default My cam only #'s are an epic failure.

So today was dyno day, I was all excited, then I ran my car.

337rwhp/353rwtq on a mustang dyno. Horse **** #'s.

I was totally shocked.

Not sure what happened. I'm going to have my tuner go through the car with a fine tooth comb.

Even the cam only Lt1 beat me by a good 20hp/tq

Im running 230/230 .612/.592 111+4 LSA. LPP headers/TSP true duals/boltons through a 9 inch with 4.10s.
My full mods are on my F-quick page.

Sorry but something is up/or was up. My car pulls like a freight train. Either the dyno was messed up on my run, or my car is F'ed.

I thought of something on the way home, what is your pinion angle set at?

Between the 9", 4.10's and ZR-1's it still doesn't add up, I would have expected you to be closer to Jared's numbers.

Race a car that makes 400rwhp and see how's yours does. If he blows your *** away, then you've got problems. If you stay fender to fender, then stop worrying about the dyno.

I don't really know the pinon angle actually. I'll talk to Matt on Monday.
Yes totally should have had similar or better #'s.

Agreed.

Either way you cut it, its BS. One thing I will say is that their dyno said on the first pull that I was making max power at 4500rpms and the second run it said my redline was 5400. Both are completely false. I don't know much about dynos but I know something just isn't right...

Thanks for the input.

this is weird though...valve float? Does your car seems to pull past 5400 or not really?

Are you sure you installed the cam dot-to-dot, didnt accidentally advance it or something when you installed it???

Valve float?, blowing out spark?, intake cracked?, are you getting kr?, have you had it tuned?, correct pushrod length?

If i were you i would pull both valve covers to check for a pushrod that may have come off on inital start up.Chris1313 my son had it happen couple of months ago when he changed his pushrods from 5/16 to 11/32.One had jumped off on start up and it was down 60-70 hp.I dont know how it did not get damaged, but it did not.It was just laying off to the side of one of the rockers.

Cam is good. There is one thing I will say though, the last week my car has been idling kinda funny, like not as much lope. I was thinking it was just paranoia. It also seems to have lost a little power, but not much, i just assumed it was from the new wheels and the added weight of the SFC.
Yup had it tuned.
pushrod length is correct. Recommended from PredatorZ
Intake is good, though that hose coming off it isn't attached to anything.
I dont know what valve float, blowing out spark, or kr is... I'm still a noob tech.

Good advice, ill take it to the shop on monday and go over it.

if your making max power that low in rpms something is wrong, you have a 230 cam it should breathe well past 6k.

Also the 9" rearend, zr1 replicas, and mustang dyno will not help provide the best dyno results.

what do other cars get on that dyno?

we have a mustang dyno around here that is stingy as well.. a stock 02 z06 only put down 332 rwhp... dyno numbers are either useful for bragging (inflated #'s) tuning or for before and after mods on the same dyno... end number doesnt make or break your car. see what it runs

Something is wrong, even with your 9 inch, wheels, and 4.10s. I have basically the same mods, 4.10's, Z06 wheels, on a stock 10 bolt and made 423rwhp cam only. With that cam you should be around 380-400rwhp

reminds me of my first dyno...made 325hp/339tq unlocked stock stall on dynojet, cutouts open, street tires...bolt on cars were doing better

peak was around 5500rpm, replaced the ls1 intake with a fast and track numbers suggested i was around 340rwhp

went to get a good dyno tune and the first wot pull on his base tune was 360rwhp unlocked with 3600 stall through the mufflers and drag radials...was still rich, didn't get to finish the tune because the driveshaft snapped and destroyed my brand new built trans (case broke in half and the large half was cracked in another spot)

how is your tune? any codes for o2 sensors or anything? any idea what a/f was?

yeah got lucky it was an intake rod...was sandwiched between the rocker arm and head hole...rocker arm took a little dent but no damage to the cup...

I even check it two times before initial start up...crazy...couldn't even tell it was running on 7...idle was just a hair rougher...

did a pull an put down 397 on 7 cylinders put down 485 the week before...definitely got lucky
