wonder how this would work in a gto with a yank 3600 stall? Also I thought these eps lobes were made for 918 behive springs so why didn't you use them?

Cam would work great with a GTO with a 3600 stall. Robert chose duals because he likes the added assurance of being able to rev 7200rpm if needed.

Were the 243 heads milled or were thinner gaskets used? Only ask cuz it was stated stock shortblock was used.

The stock LS2 heads have never been off the short block. No milling, stock GM gasket.

Pat, if I duplicated the build, getting TEA to port the 243's wouldn't hurt it if the compresion remains stock would it? They will pick up 40cfm though so maybe I can get with you to revise the cam with the added flow? I'll shoot you a PM. J

Unless you were running nitrous, I would not run as big of a split between intake and exhaust with those ported heads. TEA builds a good exhaust port.

Great numbers with EPS lobes as usual.

Forgive me for asking though, if "Cam Only" includes:

FAST 102 LSX-R intake (stock, unported)
102mm electronic throttle (yes, the big one)
MAF delete with 4" straight tube (no inlet restriction at all)
Calloway Honker CAI
ASP underdrive pulley
Patrick G custom 234/242 .602/.605" 112LSA +4 advance cam ground with EPS lobes
Yella Terra Ultra Lite 1.7 ratio rockers
Patriot Extreme dual valve springs with Ti retainers
Manton 11/32" pushrods 7.475" length (shorter pushrods were too noisy)
21 degrees of timing at peak torque, 23 degrees of timing at peak power, 12.5-12.8:1 A/F ratio.

Then what do you call an engine that ONLY has a Cam.....? Is that "Stock" then ? lol

Patrick,

Around how much time did you spend tuning this combo on the dyno?

About 20 hours getting the speed density tune good with the 102mm TB (on the road) and 4 hours on the chassis dyno.

Can you post a video of the exhaust idle? I curious to know how much lope there is. I'm having to change my cam and this would be a nice upgrade. Thanks!!

Wow what type of dyno? Never heard of untouched 243's making that kinda power...damnit man. I have a similar cam and ported 243's breathing through a calloway cold air box, SLP 85 mass/air ported 90mm tb and fast 92mm intake making 491rwhp 428ft

Im curious about the pushrod length. That seems like an awful long pushrod. Ive also noticed you generally recommend a 7.425 rod with your EPS lobed cams, do you recommend regular ole 7.4s when running the LS7 lifters due to the higher cup height? Ive got two of your grinds sitting on the shelf, and I plan on running them with the stock lifters but later on when my heads go on I plan on throwing some LS7s in there. Just want to have a good idea what Im in for pushrod length wise. What preload do you recommend for a quiet valvetrain? Im running ~.06 right now and its a little on the noisy side after I went from 20-50(breakin) to 5-20 but Ive got good oil pressure at 65idle 80ish WOT.

LS7 lifters do not require a different pushrod length in all the ones I've mic'd and installed. This is one of the great internet myths apparently. I typically strive for preload in the .070-.090" range or 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 of a turn past zero lash with stock rockers. You will be surprised at the similarity between preloads of LS1 lifters and LS7 lifters.

Honestly Im just going with the LS7s because they seem to be decent, Im not going to be spinning it high and theyre fairly inexpensive. Someone posted so comparison pics over in the internal engine section on PT showing the difference in lifters. Ill confirm for myself when I get my LS7s in the mail here shortly.

Can you post a pic of the 4" pipe and details of what parts or components were used to achieve the install from the CAI to the TB? Thanks.
