Default TR224 and PRC 2.5 5.3s

Here is a recent dyno was hoping for more as my goal is 450rwhp. What might be holding back my setup (ewp, pulley, etc)? I have a cam spec'd by Patrick that I am wanting to try (230/234 .600 110lsa), but would like to get a few more ponies before going that route. Hope is for 11s street tire full weight. TIA

You mean DR's or regular radials? I ran 11.40 full fat weight with your numbers. If it doesn't go 11's something is wrong.

Just regular street tires, soft 2.0 60' guessing I would need closer to 450rwhp to hit 11s? Will try and hit the track tonight but cold conditions might make launching tricky. Anyway just curious about the dyno and what direction I should head for mods. Just put the heads on last week and picked up 40/30 with tune at same shop where it did 360 hp/tq cam only.

I had that set up before with a TCI 3500 stall and a fast 90/90..it put down 420(around there)..but you could do a search under my name..I believe my buddy put up a graph..No runs with it though..

I later whent to a pat G 232/238 6xx 6xx 111lsa +2 on XFi lobes and put in a bigger stall (5c 4400 stall) and ditched my hedman lt for hooker 1 7/8 lt..it put down 435 rwp 407 rwt..

I'm sure the bigger stall ate some numbers but the bigger cam put some back in on the dyno..As far as numbers om the track..Well it was my first time in about 10 years and was nervous had 2.0 sixty no burn out..Just got there early and drove in and got a 11.90

But noticed it was not shifting right after the 8th,so my buddy ran it to the 8th and got a 7.14 1.5 sixty (he said on small burnout cuz not his car and was babying it,but was confident he could hit 1.4 with the 5c)which would be a low 11 in the quarter..Got the tune fixed but track closed down..Car feels toatlly different now that we nailed down the tune I would like to drop weight and see if I or my buddy can hit a high tens with it

Anyway hope this helps you out

John563- I bet that was a fun night. Good results. The 224/5.3 is a real hit or miss.... I bet it drives amazing. It's hard not to get caught up with internet dyno hype, huh? You could have achieved the same numbers with a stock set of 243's that were cleaned up and decked for $500 cheaper. I would really like to see what a custom cam would net horsepower wise... I hope you do this soon as I am excited for the comparison using the same 5.3's. GL.

First mod should be drag radials.

it was about 15 rwhp I did 420ish with the 224 cam and 435 with the custom maybe more cuz I added a bigger stall and gears wich ate "dyno numbers"

But now I got the tune fixed and shifting right I'm hoping with more practice to hit a VERY LOW 11 pass or a HIGH ten N/A next year

No reason why 400+ rwhp shouldn't get you deep in the 11s.

Example 1...My bolt-on full weight SS. 12.02@116 full weight on street tires. Less than 350 rwhp

Example 2...My h/c lt1 weighs 3650+ but only made around 355 on a dynojet, yet ran 11.7s on a good day. Consistent low 12s otherwise.

bigger cam will get you where you want.....those heads need more duration and lift than a 224 cam

Well just got back from the track and am a long way off from my goal. Could not stop hitting the rev limiter in 3rd before crossing the line at 6800rpms 100' from the line. Also took opportunity to run my new 2010 challenger R/T paper plates. San Antonio Raceway 62 degrees. While I know I need tires.....but I'm leaning towards getting Patrick's custom cam for a comparison before looking at a new rear and tires. I welcome your comments!!!

That's also STD #'s which means your car is actually in the high 380's/low 390's.

Definitely a low #, but it's a common thing I see w/ the PRC heads and TR224 cams. Those 2 parts do not like each other for some reason. PRC heads are good and TR224 cams are good, just not together.

That is pretty surprising Damian. It always seemed as the 224 made good gains and power with 5.3 heads. Most of the stock head guys running 224 cams are making under 38x rwhp range with that cam.

I kind of agree....those parts separate are decent and reliable, but the cam does not take advantage of the PRC heads which is why I am leaning towards going with the custom cam.

Kind of pointless running it on just street tires. 2.3 60's must be a smoke show LOL. It's actually harder on your parts too so I would look at some tires next for sure.

I hear you Intercooler2 and do have a set of drag radials mounted on 16" in the garage. (2 questions) How much harder will the drag radials be on my 10bolt and is the mph good enough for 11s? I will mount them this weekend and attempt to run Wed or Fri.

I agree with changing the tires, it's hard to draw results when you have such a large variable.

My first 400hp dyno was on a jet and i never hit 11's. I then took the same set up to a mustang dyno and found out why.....I only made 370hp on that stang dyno.lol
Funny how so many people on here build a head and cam car with all this power and a 10 bolt. I had a 12bolt with stock heads and cam in my car.
