Default HPP3 question

I have the HPP3 power program installed in my car right now. I just had a cam and headers installed about a month ago. I went to a 1/8 mile track yesterday to see how my car improved. I was disappointed in the gains. I improved between .1 and .2 seconds on the E/T and 3 to 4 mph on the trap speed. Have you guys see similar gains or could this be attributed to my HPP3 power tuning? I have seen some posts in the past that say the power tune can slow the car down in some instances. If this happened to you what was your situation?

My car was always a tenth or two off and about 1.5mph slower with the programming.

I don't think HPP3 is really up to the task of help you get the most out of your new set up.

BTW .3-.4 sounds like ~30 to 40rwhp gain

id think hpp3 would be in the right direction but not really whats neeeded to tune for headderrs its good for a stock car but ill dump miine when i do headders and tc for edit or a predator

Is that unreasonable to expect? I might be wrong but .1 seems too little of a gain for me.

think about the time/$$ to do an ASP pulley, that'll run ya more than a hpp3 on the open market, with belts, and labour for .1sec

same with that piece of plastic ram air thing that costs $200 and is made out of $5 material but gives .1

to some its worth it, to others its not.

With all the excitement with efilive and hptuner i think now is the time to BAIL your hpp3 , sell it quick to some loser on ebay and save your nickle for either hptuner or efilive(tuning edition).

by the time you sell your junk the hptuner will probably be out. lol.

Need more info. What was the weather on the before and after runs? Not just the temps, but the D/A? What were the shift points on the 2 runs? The only way to really see what the HPP is doing for you is to log some data with and without the tuning. I have used HPP programmers on 3 different year cars with just bolt on mods with all stock internals. My experiences with the HPP is it did not help any with my 98Z or 99SS, but on my 00SS, I run about .2 quicker and 2mph faster with the tuning installed.

First times before the cam and headers. It was night time, cool between 35 and 40 degrees 50 to 60% humidity (just a guess). It was definately cooler though. The altitude is 375 feet. It was a clear night. The car hooked pretty good.

For the most recent run the weather was perfect. 45 to 50 degrees sunny. The altitude at this track is around 750 feet. Not sure what the D/A was but the I would say the humidity was around 60 to 70% (just a guess). It was a really nice day. The car hooked good that time too.

I think I am going to get the car tuned soon. I am going to sell the HPP3.

The Power Tuner III works with stock for the performance gainer programmed in. If you have done more than a lid then it will not be calibrated for that.
What it is best used for is changing the speedometer for gear changes; changing rev limiter; changing shift points for A4; Adjusting for different tire sizes; and to a small degree to firm the A4 shifting by adjusting pressure in trans.
It is still a usefull tool for those reasons.

I say load the stock programming on and drive around a little bit and let the comp learn some stuff then go run it and see if it does any better. My friend had a cam in his vette and when he put it in the thing would barely run but after about a week the comp learned stuff and it ran like a raped ape.
