Fundamentals, while not terrible, are NOT optimized as Ryne says. LS6 intake and headers with a retune will pick up significant power, even on the non-optimized 5.3. My guess is a solid 30/30 with a good tune. The difference in 98s and other LS1s is not the tune, but the PCM and harness. These are still pretty decent numbers, for damn sure.

An over the radiator straight shot intake would add another 10rwhp+ easily. Any bend is a restriction and should be avoided if possible.

Like others mentioned: long tubes + LS6 intake.

That is a baby cam so don't expect it to be a monster. Compression and cubic inches make power.

Well I found some power this past weekend. I pulled the 5.3 and swapped in my 5.7 finally. Friday night I stayed up till 2am rebuilding my LS1 long block. Saturday I spent most of the day pulling the 5.3 and swapping over parts to the LS1. I had the motor installed by midnight on saturday. I was so exhausted I decided to call it quits for the night and get a fresh start finishing up reinstalling the small parts on sunday. What a long weekend but very productive, lol.

Here's the freshened up LS1's parts list:
Mahle std. piston rings
Clevite std. rod and main bearings
Durabond cam bearings
Ls7 lifters
Ls2 lifter trays
Ls2 HD timing chain
Various Fel-pro seals and gaskets
Gm head gaskets
KMJ head studs
ngk 55 sparkplugs
Manley 7.4 push rods
Pac 1215 valve springs
Lingenfelter GT18 228/232 113lsa cam
80mm polished throttle body

Few things I had already ran on the 5.3 for a little while:
LS6 intake painted recently to match the cars exterior "synergy green"
243 64cc heads opened up the bowls only.
80lb Siemens Deka fuel injectors
4" custom Cold air intake
HpTuners Pro

And I just ordered me a new AEM uego wideband and gauge pod so I dont have to swap the one from my Drift car. Plus I plan on boosting the Ls1 any way. I dont have any plans to get on the dyno anytime soon. I have to do some street tuning first.

Just takes time to figure out some of the bugs. You will be happier with a 5.7 over the 5.3. Very nice 240. So many 240's out there are ugly and slapped together piles.

How true is this for a 5.3 with a stock or smallish cam? It seems as though everyone goes right for this like it's an easy button. If these manifolds show a 10-20 WHP improvement on a modded 5.7, I would expect the gains to be considerably less on a 5.3...on the order of maybe 5-10 WHP (over an LS1 intake).

Just seems like not a whole lot of bang for the buck. Especially with the gains only being at the top end. I'd be curious to see quantified results showing how much the LS6 intake gains over the LS1 on a 5.3L.

I don't think your 5.3 was down on power at all.

Here is a LM7 we did with LS6 intake, Kooks 1x7/8" headers, 3" ORX, factory cat-back, factory "cold air" intake and our Street Heat Stage 1 LS6 Blower Cam which is 226/234 .605"/.612" 115+3.

This was in a C5 Corvette as well...

Edit:

I see now that your graph was in STD. I bet it was under 335rwhp SAE and 320rwtq torque which I would think for a more N/A minded cam compared to the blower cam that we used would make more torque. Granted you didn't have a LS6 intake and long tubes.

I custom built my own motor and tranny mounts. Look into hooker 240sx swap mounts. They go for $250 for the set and Long tubes are $509 for the pair. That's the route I would go.

Yeah been looking into those. I have also been looking at Dingo adjustable ones....would love to be able to set the motor as far back as possible to make more room for the turbo cross over pipe.

Nice build sir.
