what alows the new ls-1 from the gto to make more power. the only thing i know of is that it now has true dual exaust, instead of y pipe. is there now more compression or any other changes in the motor

they dont have to under rate them any more
same reason the vette was always rated higher with the same friggin motor

Different cams and pcm tune... this is why there is so many gains from swapping a cam… gm left a lot on the table when they picked the cam for the f-body vs. vet… why would you spend 20k more and have a Camaro beat you?

the fbody and vette (non zo6) ran the exact same motor and cam as for the tune minimal differences. a stock fbody will actully put more power down on a dyno than a stock vette too. they have a lil more loss but are lighter cars

i know for sure the ls6 has a diffrent cam, but i'm almost 100% sure the vet has a diffrent cam... the ls1 that went in to the vet does not have an egr and that has something to do with the spec of the cam... same thing with the 01 02 f-body...

i know the 98 to 00 f-body has a diffrent cam then the 01/02 f-body

Vet also has dual exhaust/mufflers and different manifolds

I have heard that some 98 f-body’s got y-body cams but I’m sure how you could ever tell? Funny thing is the y-body cam is smaller interims of lift and duration "minus the intake" but the lsa is 117 on the y-body and the f-body is 114.5 I’m sure they this changes the power band on the y-body...

I don’t now much about cam so maybe someone can chime in and fill us in?

GTO has different manifolds... dual exhaust... and a different cam. This gives it a higher rating... I have only looked at a few dyno runs from GTO's and Auto Trans running around 310-320 to wheels "remember this is with almost no miles so that number should rise. Maybe the HP rating is at the flywheel? That would work out close to 320 to the wheels?
