Default EPS 230/238 & hand worked 799 stalled auto

Made 387rwhp unlocked, better scan of the sheet coming soon, cell pics below

98 shortblock
EPS 230/238 113+2 cam (installed dot to dot)
799 heads (milled .010", rocker boss ground out, intake boss knocked down, sand rolled, no other porting)
Fast 90mm, wedges sanded out of runners
Doug's 1 3/4" longtubes
3" duals chambered mufflers (dual cutous but they were closed)
25% udp

stage 2 4l60e
Yank SS 3600 (unlocked)
3.5" chromoly driveshaft (heavy as hell)
gm 12 bolt, upgraded axles and Eaton posi, 3.42 gear
MT ET street radials at 20 psi on slotted mags

Ran 11.67@115mph on 1.74 60ft, best MPH so far was 116.4mph
Car weighs 3640 with me and fuel

TORQUE IS NOT ACCURATE, trans kept downshifting and it was a dyno day so I didn't want to hook up the laptop, I rolled into the throttle slower than I should so torque numbers down low are not going to be at WOT

I really expected peak HP to be higher. I was expecting 6500-6600 and carry but at the point I let off it felt like the engine layed over. Cutout like rev limit but that shouldn't occur until 6800rpm. Doesn't appear to be valve float.

Comparisons for how the dyno reads:

2011 GT 5.0 m6: Boss intake, offroad x and mufflers, cai, tune 412rwhp
1998 z28 m6: bbk longtubes, K&N FIPK, ory, tune 330rwhp
LS1 Datsun 280z t56: 799 heads milled .035", custom longtubes, cai, tune 348rwhp
6.0 swap Camaro: cnc ported heads, MS3 cam, TH350 swap with 3800 converter, dyno tune, 366rwhp (wtf?)
2011 SS LS3: bone stock, fuse pull, 364rwhp

Numbers seem low. What injectors and springs are you running?

They were spot on for what I was expecting. Car never dynos high. With a 230/224 cam it only made 324 rwhp on a mail order tune and 350rwhp on the final tune (had done 368rwhp on a different tune that was lean but it was months apart from the final tune)

GM 41.5 lb injectors
Patriot Gold duals with titanium retainers
tuned for 12.7:1 AFR and 27.5* timing

forgot to mention it also has a 85mm MAF

What did yours do? My heads will be no where near as good as yours.

I'm also running a 10 bolt so that will help me.

i was thinking the same. seems low for a h/c/i ls. i would have guessed the hp would be 400+. but ur 1/4 mile time is real nice. maybe some 1 7/8th headers may help

10 bolt (~10rwhp loss?)
aluminum driveshaft (??)
bigger headers (5-10rwhp?)
and way better heads (I bet they flow 20-25 cfm more at .600 or more)

I'd say it's ballpark. Definitely open to more opinions though, I've never opposed to finding more power in a combo.

I will try leaning it out a little more at the track tomorrow if I go. Thanks for posting!

Your cam on the same 113+2? I think I've asked you before but can't remember

Those numbers you said were unlocked. That could be the difference there, run it again locked

Yesterday the car went 11.68@115mph again on a 1.69 60ft, but in 1300ft DA instead of 50ft DA. Backed that up with several 11.72-11.74s as the DA came up more.

Car is still set to shift at 6600. I was going to try backing that down some but the car wouldn't stick as the street cars had wiped out the line.

It doesn't look like valve float up top to me. Is there another factor which would cause an early peak than expected or does it seem about normal for the specs on everything?

I know the graph isn't ideal since WOT occurred so late.

Don't worry about the dyno numers, your doing right by having it at the track.

What dyno did you use?

It's a local in ground dynojet. Numbers don't mean much to me, just looking for opinions on the curve.

Your graph shows a locked converter. I've seen as much as a 30-40 hp difference between locked and unlocked converters depending on the brand and stall speed. His would be over 400 with a locked converter.

funny you mention that..i copied this thread here years ago where a guy here put in 3 diff brand converters in his car,if i remembe it was a vig, yank,TCI(maybe) but anyway the yank loss around 25 which was low in comparison with the vig losing more

Member on here greenvortec97 has this as his signature: 99 Trans AM Xtermin8or A4: 370ci lq4, ported 243's, LS6 intake, Tick street heat 231/238 cam, full bolt on, SS3600, 3.23's. LCA's, Panhard, etc. etc. 11.73 @ 116 1.70 60ft. 383rwhp/373rwtq

I guess I am doing pretty good. Similar heads and cam, same converter, likely same weight. He has more cubes but weaker gear and intake. We are running damn near identical times and put down similar numbers.

EDIT: found his dyno thread
