Default Got Torque? Spartan Cammed / A.I. Headed LS3 goes 490HP/470TQ

First, before we get started some of you will notice the dyno doesn't cross @ 5250. We were having issues with the dyno yesterday (A/F wouldn't read at all) but the numbers are correct. These #'s are within 5hp/5tq of a previous dyno from last week at another shop. You'll also have to excuse my numb nuts dyno operator spelling "Spartan" wrong.

Anyway....Details:

* Vehicle is a 2010 Camaro SS, LS3 M6
* Stock untouched 6.2L bottom end
* Advanced Induction massage LS3 castings - Stock valves - ~11.8:1 compression
* Spartan custom cut Cam Motion camshaft - 224/234 .629/.620 114. Camshaft was degree'd in @ 111 ICL on Spartan/Cam Motion lobes.
* American Racing 1 7/8 Longtubes w/ matching X-pipe
* Dual cutouts before the X-pipe - First 2 pulls were made with cutouts open
* Stock CB system - Note: The 489/469 pull was through the catback!!!
* LS7 clutch, otherwise completely stock drivetrain
* ASP Pulley
* Vararam Intake
* Stock LS3 manifold (untouched) with stock ported TB

She's a BEAST on the street and lights the tires up underneath this 4000lb beast from a 2nd gear roll. FAST 102 and LPE 3.91 gear set coming soon.

Videos coming soon. Enjoy.

Good job Damian Nailed it for a killer street torque monster
Yep. I was going to get in that thread where all the internet experts were claiming L92 castings don't work and politely tell them they're wrong but I didn't have the time to maintain a debate.

Bottom line, if you understand how the L92 cylinder head works and what kind of valve events they require they make great power.

Awesome results. Did you have to flycut the pistons?

Awesome #'s. LS3's have so much potential. I wonder what a 2002 white spartan built h/c Trans Am would put down

Nope. The bottom end is exactly as it came from GM.

Nice! I would like to see more setups like this that run higher compression with the LS3s. That was my biggest complaint with the LS3 heads, that in order to run high compression you needed to flycut with any decent sized cam. I guess that thought goes out the window.

How much did you have the heads milled to get 11.8:1?

The bottom end is untouched. But you do bring up a good point. One thing the GEN IV setups are lacking IMO is compression. A lot of guys are scared of the fact that L92 castings come out of the box with ~.020 less PTV than a cathedral port head. I figured ways around that problem R&D'ing different lobe designs, intake/exhaust events, etc. Not using violent Comp lobes that have tight PTV issues helps too.

I'm not going to fully spill the beans on how I did this setup due to the time in R&D I've put in but these heads are cut .035+. The Cam Motion lobes I used on this camshaft have an appreciable amount of PTV clearance in comparison to the Comp lobes available.

A well thought out lobe design, good timing set, good set of springs, lightweight valves, and a few other touches can get you a LONG way in the PTV department all while getting away with a lot of compression and no flycutting.

Scales on the left and right side of the graph don't match. Right click the graph when it is displayed and select Force Scaling.

Yea I figured out the problem later in the day.

I'm going to suggest to the owner about putting a FAST 102 on before it gets hot and cracking 500rwhp with a 224* intake duration!

Awesome #s! What head gaskets did ya go with along with the .035 mill? I did a .030 mill and gonna use Cometic .041 head gaskets and I'm coming up with 11.8-1 unless I figured wrong.

MEH! I've been saying for years that L92/LS3 heads don't work. What are you going to believe...your lying eyes or what tech folk tell you?

Josh, thanks again for the awesome work. I can't say enough about the difference between this cam and the last one. Well worth the wait!

I took a guy at work for a ride at lunch Thursday and she broke loose in 3rd to my complete surprise! It felt like I had a nitro shot when she turned 4k. Now I just have to find a set of wheels and tires so she'll hook up then we'll get the gears and intake.

If anyone has any recommendations on wheels and tires that they know will fit, send em my way I looking for the lightest and widest. I've heard 305s will fit but if I can get 325s with no mods I'd rather have them.

Once I get tires on her, I'll be ready for the track and we can post time slips that reflect the dyno numbers.

I would have to run across this post while you've got my car on the lift. Such a teaser post for me.
Looks like you've got another happy Spartan customer. I certainly hope the owner springs for the FAST 102 and gets this car back on the dyno. 500rwhp on a 224 intake will certainly be something to brag about.
Now, back to work I go. Got a lot of **** to pay for. Get some practice rounds in on the karts. You're going to need them sir.
