Default 383 Dyno with Typhoon 96mm setup

Well I just got back from the dyno and I am satisfied.

Mods are:

383 Stroker, Lightly ported 243's ( combustion chamber work), 238/248 cam, Typhoon 96mm intake, Nick Williams 102 TB, SLP maf and bellows, 98mm lid, Truck Coils,BBK headers, ect...

Car made 461 rwhp and 448 rwtq.

Old setup was the same except LS6 intake, ported Stock TB, and SLP lid.

Car made 448 rwhp and 445 rwtq.

I picked up 13 rwhp but more important picked up between 7-15 rwhp throught the graph. My tuner was pretty happy with the results and said I would see maybe 5-10 more hp with a Fast intake 92 or 102 but would it really be worth the extra cash? I spent 400.00 for my intake and fuel rail setup and another 300.00 for the NW TB.

This has been kinda a budget build and so far my motor with cam and timing chain with all the covers cost 2400.00, my Heads ported cost 1000, and the intake setup ran 700.00. I am in 4100 give it take a few hundred more or less.

With bolt ons my car made 340rwhp. I have gained 121 rwhp. I will try to post up the graph if I can get a scanner. I like the looks of the Typhoon intake over the Fast but keep thinking what would the car make with a fast 102. I then have trouble shelling out another 400-600 for a fast intake for just an additional 5-10 more hp when I can spend the same price on a N20 kit and just spray the crap out of the car. I am also happy with making 460 rwhp as to me thats a pretty good power number.. Means my motor is making around 542 hp @ the flywheel! Stock were rated @ 325hp but probably more like 340hp. So in reality I gained over 200 hp for 4100.00..

What are the differences in gains or power between the typhoon 96mm and FAST102/92?

No video. I will try to post up the graphs once I get them scaned in. I am guessing the difference between the Typhoon and Fast would be anywhere from 5-20 more hp depending on supporting mods. I am sure I would have gained more if I had the 1 7/8 headers, 3 inch Ypipe. I am running BBK headers, 2 1/2 Y-pipe and cutout. I have stock 243's with some bowl port work but nothing more.

As said before I spent 400.00 for the intake and fuel rail, and like 300 for the TB. I love the way the intake looks compared to a fast. The intake never really heated up that much either. It gets warm but not hot. We made about 6 pulls on the dyno last night and had about 5mins in between with tqueking. After each pull I felt the intake and it was just a little warm. Each pull we made more power as well. Not really noticing a heat soak but it was 53 degrees out. Maybe during the summer it might be more of a issue.

If your on a budget like I am then this intake might be for you. I am satisfied with the 461 but I realize I could maybe squeeze out another 10-15 hp with a Fast 102 but would that be worth the extra 600.00?

Been waiting on this dyno! Got the pp 96 going on my 408 so I'm happy you picked up a good amount over the ls6 intake!

Yep. I was right were I thought it would be. 5-10hp over the LS6 curve and peaked @ 13hp. Not bad. I was talking with my tuner today and he suggested that getting some 1 7/8 headers, and a 3 inch ypipe and I would free up another 15-20 more hp. We were thinking that the Exhaust is smothering the intake setup. He also said that 383's are iffy with big 96-102mm intakes. Some of them make more power with a 92mm intake vrs the bigger ones. IDK how much more I want all motor wise as 461 rwhp is pretty stout. My wife would kill me if I drop more dough on this car right now!

I'd get a ported 92mm FAST instead; easier to install and no need for fuel rails and shitty fitting problems.

But keep your setup the way it is honeslty, its already badass

Um The Typhoon intake was easy to install and had no fittment problems! Easiest way to install it we found was to stick your entire arm inside the inlet of the intake and just put it on the heads easly. It weighs around 18lbs and the LS6 was around 8lbs. the gaskets work great as well. I am not saying its better then a Fast but for around 400 shipped I got the intake and fuel rails brand new were as a brand new Fast 92 is around 900.00 for the intake alone and you have to get new bolts for the valley cover. The typhoon works fine with the stock bolts! Also the bolts that hold the intake onto the motor you could install all of them when the intake is on the motor. No need to tape up the back 5 in order for them to fit under the cowl! Another bonus is how the thing looks and sounds! Another cool feature of it as well is that its not as wide as the LS6 or Fast intake and you can easily reach your around around the back of the motor now, were as with the LS6 intake you would have to remove it and pull it forward a little!
