Default Extensively modified TF 235 results

Chris Frank gave me a hand getting this thing going. I called him over a year ago quizzing him about a cylinder head thread I had read here on LS1 Tech. He started with a set of rough CNC TF 235's, used his port design, welded the chambers as I had -10cc pistons.

LS3 Stroker
TF 235's extensively modified by Chris Frank
235/243 .647/.654
Fast 102 re port by Chris Frank
NW 102 TB
AR 1 7/8's 3" mid section cat's
SW 3" Cat Back
6 spd 4:10's
RPS Carbon Street Lite

The chassis dyno is a Mustang, accurately calibrated. Parasitic Multiplier is set to 2.1 rather than 1.0, it will display similar numbers you would expect from Dyno Jet this way.

I had street tuned the car & knew it was day & night over the previous combination, 550/500 was my target & I believed we should be in that range. It was very nice to pleasantly suprised with these results.

The very first dyno run was 595/506 which also was the lowest, I wanted to pack everything & go home at that point

Very nice results! I have a very similar combo, 416 with tea tfs 245 with a bit larger cam (243 251). Also running a vac pump. Everything else is the same though, gear, tranny , ,exhaust and intake( ported my me).

You definitely exceeded your goals by far, very nice attention to detail. What's the compression and what vehicle is this in?

I remember the Vac pump read very nice!

11.5, major welding to get there without upsetting the flow. C5 Vert.

Maybe I missed it or not following??? These gains are from going from untouched 235s to the modified 235s? Or was there a different head before?

So when Chris got the TFS heads, were they the CNC's TFS 235 heads you can get from Summit or TEA, or were the TFS 235 heads "porter castings"? I know Advanced Induction has a TFS option, but they start out as porter casting heads, not the CNC's ones.

They are rough CNC TF 235 heads. My understanding is they come as 225 port allowing the porter to finish to their specifications. Most likely a "porter casting" as you say.

These heads come from trick flow as porters castings and the port design is our own in house design.

With just a cylinder head change and our ported fast manifold Dale picked up 75+hp to the tires with our combo over the competitors custom heads and manifold. Dale didn't change anything else on the engine. Frankenstein has always let the numbers speak for themselves. Great job on the build Dale and I hope it makes you happy after the two years of struggle with the old combo.

Ron here, dales tuna student.
I could see Dale's smile all the way from Canada and I'm in Oregon.
I was supposed to be there for the dyno weekend.

I guarantee that his C5 is all but out of control with that much HP. Just the way we like it!

For example, my 69 Nova is in that area and has been in the high nines and weighs a bit more. That's some serious power and at a very nice 6500 rpm.

Nice work guys

Ron

Here is a photo of the combustion chamber cc sorry I don't know. Pump gas Shell 91 octane. Some flow data as well, the previous heads stalled @ .600 317cfm on the Intake

I bet you'd be about a year out from getting the heads finished and back if you shipped them now. I've heard the top 1% of head porters are that busy.

By the way, what the hell you got up your sleeve now Dave?

Just got off the phone with Chris. GREAT GUY to talk too.

Let's just say it was an eye and ear opening conversation. Very we'll be making the jump to a set of his custom TFS heads.

Do it. Then you'll have a reason to have Ed grind you up a "big boy" stick

Goods news, anything you want to share?

Chris would have tried to modify my original heads if I had choose to go that way. I was not prepared to spend more money on something that was supposedly already optimized

With my AFR's I'm almost at the point of diminishing returns. The money can be more appropriately allocated towards his TFS casting; coupled with larger lighter valves, custom chamber work, hand finishing...

It's just nice that a guy that works with some of the biggest names in racing picked up the phone and had a conversation with little ole me, if that makes sense.
