Post WAR intake dyno results

Dyno tested a WAR intake that I converted to fuel injection, had to fab up an elbow to use a FAST 90mm T\B as to "fit" under the cowl.

The customer was ok with me posting the results since he wanted to try this type of setup on his car but does not want to disclose the specifics about his setup. I am only posting the results for technical info so people curious about using this type of setup will have information.

-346ci forged internals, LS6 heads(not FMS),FMS cam, Kooks 1-3\4" to 1-7\8" headers.

The results we got were what I expected, just figured it would have made a little more peak HP.

BLUE is the WAR intake,RED is the LS6 intake.

It seems the LS6 is starving it at higher RPMS, but what's more interesting is that the LS6 made more power at lower rpms.

Looks like some very nice custom work though, too bad the results weren't there.

Very interesting comparison. From what I see the midrange suffered from the War Intake and the peak could possibly be higher. So the LS6 wins in the midrange category. I still like the way it looks though.

I'll take the LS6 powerband any day in this particular setup.

I agree with Racehead. I'd stick with the ls6 until I could get a 90 mm fast.

Allan, Awesome Job! You do great custom work. I wonder if a 4 barrel TB would make any more power.

How do you think the elbow effected hp/tq because in theory the single plane should dominate????

V8maro, not necessarily. His peaks went from 6K to 7K.

Great job!!

From another independent dyno test with a carb,it lost TQ and only gained 10HP,after a 2" spacer was added. I don't think a 4-barrel T\B will have any difference,if anything a lower HP gain if trying to fit under the cowl, but you never know until you try.

Damn this is all pretty interesting, still seems like the ls6 is the way to go, well other than your custom aluminum intake that came off your car. Im really curious about the ls2 intake, seems like gm might do us a favor and make something to 1 up the ls6.

477 RWHP is damn good on stock CI.

Has anyone used this on larger cubic inches?

Everytime I look at Allans customs work I'm impressed!

I've toyed with the idea of putting a WAR intake on my 91 RS and going speed density when swapping to an LS1. I'm still not sure if we are going to build a WAR 346 or a WAR 383. Hopefully, we can get some engine dyno pulls with RS's new engine with LS6, LSX, & WAR intake plus test a few cams but that's still a ways off.

That is very nice fab work but, the elbow is very low and may not be a true representation of the capabilities of the intake. I'll have numbers soon... That is if Accel stops f'ing me.

Is your custom elbow as good as a 90 degree elbow? Does it matter?

I would think the elbow would have alot to do with it. Look at how many people invest money in lids and intake(not manifold) systems and show gains.

Thanks everybody.

I feel that this manifold would show more gains on a big CI motor or blower \nitrous motor. The elbow was the only solution in fitting the customers requirements,it still had a smooth 3\4" radius on the bottom. I also feel that the shorter elbow MAY kill it 2-3 HP at the most, being how the other motor it was tested on didn't make any power with a carb sitting directly on the intake(carbs and 4-barrel T\B's act the same way on air flow to the runners)

i'd love to try it out on FI, pm me if you want the address where to send one .. no really im serious.

i think it will show gains at the track, with a rev range like that you have to assume they guy is never under 6krpms through the 1320

With a blower setup a car like mine would potentially stay about 5200 rpms or even higher during an entire run. I spin my car to 7200.
