Default TCI4400 dyno results

Well, on Saturday we held a dyno day at a local performance shop. I was hoping to dyno the Z28 with the beefed up drivetrain, but we had issues that needed resolving. So we took the SS. The mods it has are listed on our website, but here they are again:

FTRA
TS&P Lid
Hooker LTs & ORY
TCI4400
HPTuners (modified trans settings only)
Mileage = 115,000

On the first pass, with the converter unlocked, it dynoed 279/285 or so, but it waqs runnign very rich ... 11.5! Second pass it dynoed 281/286, again very rich ... it started off at 12.5 and dropped to 11.5. On the third run, the operators locked the converter ... still it was at 11.5 but the numbers were pretty amazing (considering the mods): 327 rwhp and 344 rwtq! I was impressed, but shocked that the converter ate soo much power. This is due to the converter not being properly matched to the setup, a 3500-4000 would be better suited to these mods. They are good for low 12s though. Some changes are planned for the future, so those numbers will change or be improved.

I had a tci 3800 with bolt ons and it dynoed at 341/383 with the converter not locked and ran 11.80s at112 with boltons.. you need to get the airfuel around 13.0 of close to it , for maximum power. I dont think you'll have a problem reaching mid to low 12s.. good luck..

Thats not very efficent----->48RW loss
I'd agree with u,the 3500 verter wouldve better...

My TCI 3800 lost only 18 rwhp between locked and unlocked..46 rwhp is alot, but the track numbers should be good.

The track numbers are good, it cut a best 1.611 60' on the factory suspension ... no aftermarket LCAs, RLB, TQ, not even bushings. The A/F should be around 12.8 and I will tune to get that. On the Vig3200 the best ET was a 12.44, it has ran more than a handfull of mid-low 12 already. The reason why it is so inefficient is because the stall speed is beyond the power curve. It is very important to match the converter to your mods! I am using this converter because of the planned mods I will be doing, and since the trans was being rebuilt ...

We just installed a 4400 on a stock 98 car with a lid. The car baselined at 294rwhp before & 383 after. These results were on different days, but it's something to look at....

Hey George was this on the Dyno where we first dynoed my car? ( I think it was performance Brothers ?) if so I thought that was a mustang dyno. Glad to see your car is still going strong with so many miles on it, I just turned 27k on mine. talk at ya later

I'd give Kevin Winstead a call. Even for a 4400, I don't think they would expect such a huge difference. Have to be carefull with the results if the tuning change between runs, even if the A/F didn't change a lot.

Jason you're saying a 4400 picked that car up 89 RWHP? There's no way a converter is going to do that with that being the only mod added. Did you mean 283 after?
