Red face G5X2-5.3L Patriots #s

Tossed the pig on the dynojet today...

With all mods in the sig, and 76 degree air, 1200 ft DA.

390hp which peaked at 6200 and pulled strong over to 7k
375 tq which was flat as can be too and made over 350 ftlbs from 3k+

It was VERY lean under the curve and got down to a 12.8-13.0 afr from 6K plus other wise 13.5 till then and 28* timing

Through the 12 bolt, 50lbs 17" wheel's and 4.30's

Does anyone know if gearing affects the hp seen at the wheels?

I got out dynoed by 2 03' cobras with bolt ons and stock pulley.

IMO these #s are pretty crumby for a heads and cam car thats been tuned, it was what i was expecting, but is pretty dissapointing

well what kind of dyno was it on? a dynojet or a mustang dyno. I think those #'s are real low. you should be in the 420 range easy. even with the 12 bolt and 430 gears. do a search under that cam and compare to what other people made.

i'd expect those for cam only numbere not h/c.

FWIW jason lost like less then 20rwhp on his 451rwhp trex cam only setup going from the stock rear end to a 12 bolt and 4.56 gearing.

post up the graph if you have it.

It was on a dyno jet brand in ground. It doesnt make sence that it is this low to me either, but with the car is race trim with me in it weighs in at 3390 has trapped at almost 120 already, i wouldnt think 390 would do that?? Ill see if i can scan the graph in quick

12 bolt or not, those #'s suck.

Are those heads new or used? If used, were they inspected before use?

I had a tr224 last year and was only 2 tenths behind and had 117 mph... the heads are new for this year as well as the G5x2 cam.

This was through a SLP 2otl exhaust and hooker y pipe, not short belt and ATI super damper 10%under drive pulley.

WTF would give up 40 hp?? LOL ive got about 4K on it since all the work was done. It does use alot of oil, i white teflon taped the rocker studs that go into the intakes, i got rid of the PCV and only have a filter in the VC...

Your surely missing at least 20 hp somewhere and I don't think the 12bolt @ gears are costing you that much power. I question your AF curve as it is very lean up until 6K rpms when it hits 13.0-1. Get it to 12.8-1 from the start of the pull to redline and see if it helps any. Notice my AF curve on my chart attached.

bypass the 2otl catback with a cutout and youll pick up alot I think. I dynoed 390 / 373 with stock heads and a small SII cam with cats although I still have a 10 bolt.

that looks real lean you should be 12.5-12.8 across the bored for a good safe tune . id say add a lil more fuel down low for starters and go from there. on the street that a/f is gonna way to lean for my taste

Ive got SVO 30#s in it and a stock pump yet.

It seems like i can always give the engine the fuel its looking for by just richening it with edit.

Im gonna have to run a fuel psi test on it, and see if im loosing pressure under load??

I have a roll master double roller chain ,and i set the cam straight up dot to dot. I would assume it prolly has 4 degrees advanced ground in, but they dont give a cam card with it, just a "G5" scribed into the one end.

If anyone has got any ideas, please let me know, im open to try anything.

Im gonna start with the fuel pressure and tap a gauge to the wind shield and see if its dropping off under load.

If it has just G5 scribed in the end, then maybe you got a original G5 cam and not the G5X2? That could explain alot. It's an idea anyways. My X3 had "G5X3" inscribed on the back.

HAHHAAH Great!!!! just what i wanted to hear!!! LOL

I bought the cam almost exactly a year ago, I would have assumed it should have been the X2.

This would explain why the 224 cam seemed better.

Anyone know the spec of the "G5" cam then?? I PM'ed Lou about this situtation, hopefully i get some advise from him on it too.
