I think you need to bring it to slp attention and see if they are willing to try and remedy the situation. No way the motor should smoke like that.

SLP has been good with follow up on this issue. For now, I've hooked up a PCV and am putting some more break-in miles on the motor. I'll update as things progress.

What was the outcome of this situation. I am contemplating buying a ZL 402 from SLP.

give us the exact results of the leakdown for all 8 cylinders, If there is oil getting in there a leakdown should have let you find the weak link. Also what color is the smoke maybe its unused fuel?

I'll answer for him. He has not been able to log on for a while becuase of some computer issues at his end. The car was just here for a 12 bolt and we noticed an oil leak that appeared to be a rear main seal. Having put this motor together myself, I found that very hard to believe. When I pulled everything apart, it was found the the crank plug was not installed correctly and oil was leaking around it. I installed a new plug, tacked the pilot bearing (Eagles boss for the pilot is too big) and re-assembled everything. Oil leak gone. After some miles on the car he says that the smoke is all but gone now. He's waiting for the tracks to open in the spring

Cool Hey Mikey!

Those are serious #'s on your latest head/cam package! What all was needed to reach that horsepower level besides the package? Thanks,

Is it safe to say that the in the end this was an SLP assembly problem?
