Exclamation Debate: high Dyno #'s or low ET's???

Well i guess I have a dud car and can only hope for low E.T....based on what I have in the car I onl;y dynoed 297.8 hp and 335.tq....but can run 13 flats with regular tires and major wheel hop.....so once I get some suspension mods and some sticky rubber..then I'll see some 12's and those # will make me forget my shitty hp Dyno#'s.........So I ask...what is actually better of the two?......Seems to me based on what I have read and have searched....alot of variables go into dynoing and it depends on the type of dyno and the way it is calibrated.......So I guess I can show them my Dyno sheet and let people race me based on my hp #!!!!!!!!!!

I know a guy who dynos 260(Mustang) who runs 12.5 on slicks dynos are more a measure of what the car/motor can do, driver and traction can make a lot of difference, you can dyno 500 RWHP if you can't launch or get it to the ground what good is it. !!!

That's an easy one for me! I love to win races, I don't care about being a dyno queen. You can run against someone with a higher HP "peek" but you might have more power though out the rpm range but dosen't peek as high as the other car. And your car will win the races!

Driver, tires, suspesion, weight, and then hp make up racing. Dyno is all motor and to achieve less drivetrain loss. Hard to compare the two.

Get a 3500 stall and some et streets. You'll run mid to low 12's all day.

dont even worry about dyno numbers. i am one of those low rwhp 99 fbodies out there. get it to the track and thats where it all counts. i used to be thinking that what the car dynoes shows what it can do at the track, but i was wrong. i have seen about 5 different 450rwhp cobras running low twelves. i am about 100 less rwhp than them and i can guarantee you that i can do low 12s as well. mod it and take it to the track. thats the only way to know

Dyno numbers can show potential but the gearing and suspension and weight among other things make the track times.

Like Brian2001SS state here previously, there are many things besides HP that determine ET. Also, HP is usually only stated a one given RPM, we don't spend much time there. Engines with the same peak HP often have differently shaped HP curves. It is he who can average the most HP throughout the used RPM range that will be quicker, all other thing being equal. Example, I have seen supercharged cars that their HP peaks at their Rev limit, this makes it difficult to average HP anything near that number. They probably will not be as quick as what thier peak HP indicates. Then their are cars that have a very flat HP curve, they will be quicker then what their peak HP indicates. This is why calculating HP based off of weight Vs MPH varies.

HP and ET are barely related.
