Found out there was a dyno day down here in San Diego, $40, so I couldn't resist. Runs 4 and 5 were with the stock lid, and 6 and 7 with an MTI clear lid, for a little comparison. Pretty solid gain there. Still need to get the tune done, so that should net me a bit more. Found a good writeup on TB porting, so that's my next step. I should be able to take care of that before I get my mitts on HPTuner.

 

Nice numbers! That lid helped a lot. When you get the ported tb and tune you should be at 410 or so.

 

I should say so. I'm pretty happy with my HP, and think it's pretty high for my mods, but I'd like to bring my TQ up a bit. My goal is 400 ft-lbs, be we'll see! I'll probably tear into that TB tomorrow. Hope I don't ruin the damned thing!

BTW- Did you get yours to the dyno yet?

Hey, there is something wrong with your graph. Horsepower and Torque should always be the same (or cross) at 5252 rpm. Maybe the speed scale is off, but it ALWAYS crosses because the formula for HP is Hp = (Torque x rpm) / 5252

 

It appears that way but the hp and tq have different values on each side of the graph. They are scaled differently so if you take that into account and look at the actual values, they WOULD cross at 5252.

umm thats just a theoretical equation, the line doesnt have to meet at 5252. its an equation and just that.

 

horsepower = rpm x torque / 5252

That is a real equation relating horsepower and torque. It is not theoretical. Horsepower and torque will ALWAYS cross at 5252rpm.

Like mentioned above the hp and tq scales are different on that graph so it only appears they don't cross at 5252rpm.

 

Besides the fact that the graph wasn't scaled correctly, anyone notice how much the car leaned out with the MTI lid?? It appears to be a half a point down low and gaining to a full point up top. A tune will help your car and to get rid of that 6200 limiter it appears you still have.

 

torque is what's actually being measured and horsepower is determined by the torque through a formula: (torque*rpm)/(5252) thus always haveing the torque and hp levels meet at 5252rpm's

 

Hey, thanks for pointing out the different scales, that makes it very confusing. And yes, everyone is correct, HP and Torque ALWAYS cross because as one person already said, all you measure on the dyno is torque and calculate HP from it using the formula. Sometimes, you don't even measure torque, all you do is measure the accelleration rate of the rollers and then calculate the torque from a formula using the rollers inertia: Torque = Inertia times accelleration rate. Then you use this torque value to calculate HP.

The different scales reminds me of a good friend here at work who used a semi-log graph to plot Hertz versus Cycles/Second. Of course, they are the same thing so you would expect a straight 45 degree line. However, on semi-log paper it comes out to a nice curve. Very funny!!!

It doesn't. That is the torque you are looking at. The cam peaks at about 6200 where i looks like his rev limiter kicks in.

There is no where to complain there! You almost made 400rwhp untuned, and w/o some basic bolt-ons....Very good numbers. you also picked up a solid 10ft lbs of tq.....just from a airlid. Sounds like you're gonna end up at aropund 410/390 once you are full bolt-on/tuned......

go figure, that's about what TSP has been claiming!!!
