Default ls1 intake with a 232/232 112 cam

I have a 98z just got it tuned up today on the dyno.

my list of mods aren't too long:
pacesetter lts/ory
hooker catback w/ cut out
asp crank pulley
ported and polished tb
slp lid
still have the ls1 intake
comp cams 232/232 112lsa .595/.595

with the cut out open i put down 380 rwhp 374 rwtq (on my 4th run) through a stock 10 bolt and the car is a m6.

there is still more tweeking to be done as i ran otu of time to stay at the shop (needed the car to drive a few places this weekend too so i couldnt leave it). When mycheck from uncle sam comes in ill be adding the ls6 intake, i need to finish up the free mods, and change my plugs and o2 sensors. should there be any reason I shouldn't hit the 400 rwhp mark? my goals are to clear the 400 rwhp mark and 380 rwtq mark with the cutout closed. is this acheivable? what other mods should i look into to reach my goals?

Thanks fellas
Travis

Good results!
You will probably pick up a good 15-18hp from the intake swap (to LS6)...25 or more with an LSx

Nice! Where are you shifting at?

How much are you getting that LS6 intake for?

If it is in the $400+ range, I'ld think you'ld be better off holding out for some heads...

If you do get heads though you'd benefit even more from the ls6 intake. Get the intake first and see where you're at.

400 might be a bit high....390 for sure. Depends on how far off your tune is. I only got ~ 15 out of my LSX, but my tune was pretty close. You will certainly see more power above 5k with it. And your power should hold steady out to 6500 or so, instead of falling off at 5500 - 6k like it probalby does now.

As for what else you can do, you've done most of the usefull bolt-ons. Maybe a Mez electric water pump would put you over the top. Or some good rocker arms. (your tb has been modded to open to 100%, yes?)

Just how much do you need to mill off of that "stop post" to get it to open 100%? It looks pretty far open IMO. Will it not freak out the throttle position sensor?

niphilli -- Thats what im hopeful for. I think if i can get 10-13 hp out of the intake Jeff (grannysshiftin) should be able to get my max power up to 400, and my torque is so close to my goal already.

derek silvy-- I'm definately gonna be keeping my eye out on the for sale section to see if i can catch a deal before i drop my money into a brand new intake through a sponser. As for my shift points, Jeff moved my rev limiter to 6500 for now butwhen i've gotten on it im still shifting around 5800-6k, my power drops off around 6200 rpms (which i was suprised with the ls1 intake!)

I'll be getting heads but not till I get a 12 bolt or 9inch rear in there. I know im already flirting with disaster now luckily i dont go to the track so hopefully that will prolong the life of my 10 bolt.

Wahusker-- where is your a/f at wot? We were having issues with my hookercatback getting 02 readings during the dyno. eventually he got enough informatin to start adjusting it but not enough to really get into it as deep as he wanted to. he's still trying to figure out what was up with the equipment.

SO far so good though, the tune is quite nice to have lol. My car runs better now with a decent size cam than it did when i just had a lid and full exhaust without a tune :-D Definately pleased all around, the torque curve looks great, steady yet has room for improvement.

oh and yeah the tb has been modified to open all the way up.

Thanks for the replies fellas!

silk98z, those were nice numbers (I was the guy on the dyno after you.) After you left Jeff worked on mine for a while, 377hp,361tq. I think I'll order a cam like you have & see if it helps.

working on that DrkPhx, i definately want to get the graph up so people can see the difference once i get an intake on this bisch.

I'm trying to figure out how to use this new printer i have lol. once i do ill post the graph. i suck at this here interwebnet stuff how do i post the graph anyhow?

hey man, shoot me a pm if you want some more infoa bout the cam, or you can talk to the man right above me DrkPhx is the one who sol dme the cam. Absolutely stout cam, not very big peak numbers but that torque is looking pretty damn good. Now if only we can get a decent reading for a/f through my catback lol. (has anyone had any issues getting a good a/f reading through a hooker catback? cause jeff was having a hell of a time with that).

Glad to see your happy with her! Travis, I think we will get you to where you want to be, first step is to GET RID OF THE EGR DINGLEBERRY STICKING IN YOUR INTAKE! Work on making sure oil consumption of any kind is reduced etc, the moderate to higher milage cars seem especially sensitive to timing, and with the 98s knock sensors already wacky its good fun

Wasnt sure why your air/fuel wouldnt read through the catback... Marks read ok (or at least it seeemed ok) The guy after you two seemed to read also... but not sure, his heads/232 cam car was only making 360 or so

Mark if you get looking for a cam let me know, Ive tried a few
