I did the same torques them, then let them sit for a bit and then retorqued. I never retorqued after a heat cycle. No prbs so far after lot of abuse. You'll love the AFR's.

Damn, what compression ratio is that 11.5:1?

Yes I think it's right up there/ That's the same as what LG uses on all his G5X3/AFR packages and what Tony used on his C5.

Congrats on the great results. That is very impressive for the mods you have. Sure does speak volumes for the AFR heads.

Just to clarify, the CR I ran in my C5 was exactly 11.26 to 1.

Lou runs it a little higher but don't forget he has a notched piston so a 59 cc head doesn't increase the CR as much as you think. His CR figures to be close to 11.4 to 1, but with the availablity of 93 (or better) octane and a cam with significantly more overlap, he can get away with it and that combo seems to work out great.

Sweet numbers man.

Sorry to hijack but....

Patrick I've been thinking of doing the AFR/CheaTR combo lately, but did you even consider the BBK shorties *gasp*. I said the S word... they have 1 3/4" primaries, while other shorties have 1 5/8". Although at $175 for a pair of manifolds... you probably can't beat those for the price.

Although if I switched to 01+ manifolds I'd have to do something with the EGR garbage. So maybe the BBKs might be a better option for me. We'll see...

According to Pat,the CNCd manifolds MIGHT be worth 10RW I wanted them too but decided on Shorties for my setup,I see alot of HFC burning out on our cars and decided to just remove the resonators, add an X and the JBA's......

At this point, I'm not sure if shory headers will be any quieter than long tubes. The noise is the big objection for me. I know the JBAs are supposed to be high quality, but holy smokes they're pricey! BBK are cheaper, but I thought they were mid-length headers like the Macs and Bassanis. Somebody please chime in. 1 3/4" headers, even if shorties, would be better than 1 5/8" at the 400+ rwhp level.

Patrick I just got a set of BBK shorties for my car and I will test them to see what if any I gain. I'm not geting any retard anymore either, even in our almost 90 degree weather with humidity up here. Can you imagine I could be making 425+rwhp. Then there's the fast 90/90 and an EWP left. Have you done the 90/90 yet? Do you want me to measure the noise of the car with shorties and manifolds? Send me the criteria and I will. I'll probably try the cheatr cam this winter-right now I'm just enjoying my "almost" stock Z.

I'd love to find out if the BBK shorties gain anything over Z06 manifolds. If they do, they'll gain even more of F-Bodies. I'd be even more interested in hearing the sound comparison. If they don't tink with the high frequency resonance like long tubes, I might be a player. Yes, I have a FAST 90/90 setup planned for the near future. I'll be in the 410-420 range with factory exhaust in the near future...just like you!

How should i measure the noise? In the car? With the hood open/closed? Hey bro-you started this crazy idea but I love it. A bunch of my buddies thought I was nuts but after driving the car they absolutely love it compared to when it made 447 with a bigger cam and headers. The crazy thing is that power can still be achieved with the right parts. The cheatr cam is definitely part of the puzzle, that 10 degrees of duration over the Z06 cam has to be worth at least 10rwhp. I'm assuming you have those log manifolds and 4 cats compared to my 2 hi-flow Z06 cats-that's gotta be hurting you.

Yes, the CheaTR cam is the bees knees. It rocks. The only way you can really measure the noise of the shorties is by listening to how it sounds when you drive it, from inside the car. If it sounds like stock, there's probably some hope. If it sounds tinny and cheap compared to stock, I'll probably stay away. BTW, my F-body only has 2 cats. Check it out.

Yes, keep us updated on the BBKs Vortech... Either way I think if I want to go this way and make maximum power... my 99 manifolds will have to go - the passenger side is the funky log one... driverside one is okay though.

Some guy over on corvetteforum with a Z06 said he gained 14HP when he swapped out his manifolds for the BBKs... that's pretty amazing to me. Corvette manifolds looks way better than F-body ones.
