Default SDPC 402 Dyno *Feedback Appreciated*

Below is the poop on my best dyno run at Texas Speed Performance.

I need some feedback on a better cam to get me into the 450-500 rwhp. Keep in mind that I drive the car daily, so I don't want to cannibalize my mileage. Right now I get 17mpg around town and 23 on the highway.

SDPC LS2 402, Patriot Stage II LS6 heads (2.055/1.57/59cc), Patriot Performance 226/585/112 cam, Harland-Sharp 1.7, FAST 90, Meziere, 42lb SVO injectors, SLP Underdrive Pulley, Walbro fuel pump, SPEC-3 clutch, Borla exhaust, Dynatech headers, static compression of 11.17:1

Ultimately I want to hit 11.95 @ 116 in the 3750lb 2006 6-speed GTO, But I want to have some auto-cross fun, and I need good low-midrange power for everyday practicality.

OCT 06 Dyno: 433rwhp/430rwtq

I would figure it would make more power than that. Looks like the intake track is restricted (stock sucks)or the Cats are alittle clogged.

A decent Cam would be a Comp XER 234/240 on a 112, but I would look into the restriction first.

I have an unported Fast 90 intake with the factory electronic 90mm throttle body. The exhaust has Borla high-flow catalytic converters. A while back SLP had their GTO make 484 rwhp / 452 rwtq without porting. It used a 596/.596, 250/246-duration, 114-centerline, 114 LSA cam. It ran 11.83 at 122-mph on a factory air intake.

It's not the intake but the inlet before that. What is the filter, mass air and piping like? A stock setup would be very restrictive. I really don't have any experience with Borla Cats to tell if they are restrictive.

What does it run right now? That massive torque curve carries over 400ft/lbs for over 2500rpm, I'd imagine it gets up and goes pretty good. Don't get too caught up in those peak numbers or what a different car made on a different dyno, go to the track first to get a solid idea of the power from your trap speeds, and then shop for the cam based on how much more trap speed you're lookin for. Dynos are great for tuning but.......

Yeah, the huge torque helps make the car feel lighter than it is. At the strip there is no way to get traction until I get drag bags for the springs and street radial drag tires. I get violent wheel hop in second gear. At the line I just idle off, and do not make power shifts. This nets me mid thirteens. The Lingenfelter CAI is one of the last things I have to install, but I can not see it changing the outcome by more than 10 hp/lbtq either way. I do have the K&N panel air filter, and the SLP car did more with less.

I deploy for Iraq around the end of the month, so this project will likely wait until I return. I just want to know what direction to take when I return.

Yes,10hp on a stock car but your's is not stock I've gained 35-40hp opening up intake tracts on Vette's.Not saying your's will but the GTO intake setup is really restrictive.
Forget SLP results. It's like pissing in the wind and having a wet pant leg after.

Even the torque is low for such a small cam on a 402 with healthy compression. I'd expect at least 460 but more like 480-490 with such a small camshaft. So, you may have a problem with the motor. I'd recommend a compression check.

After that, I'd change: Stock intake system for the LPE CAI, Harland Sharp rockers for stock rockers (weight over the valve = evil), and the cam to at least a mid 230s duration XE-R or better cam. The MS3 from TSP would be a good cam, actually.

The Patriot heads aren't great, but they should support 470-480wrhp without much trouble.

Cam is quite small. Also, AFR is still kinda rich for an NA application. Who is doing your tuning?

Compcam XER 236/236 w/ 600+ lift on a 112.
I agreee with slowhawk on both statements, upgrade the air intake and forget SLP's claims. I watched there 500rwph car do 12's all day at the track a few years ago. Power doesnt alway equeal speed.

Actually that is the point where the car made it's best power. The a/f was moved around a little bit just to be sure. We were thinking a MS3 might be a nice swap without giving up much low end. It would still be a fairly small camshaft for a 402, but it should make good power..

A bigger cam would probably help you out a lot. A 226 cam is pretty small for a 402 so thats where you might be missing some pretty decent power.

I have this cam for sale. Only put about 100 miles on it. Will let it go cheap. PM me.

If the goal is high elevens, and you're currently getting mid-13's out of it, you have a long way to go, but whats the MPH in the quarter? Thats the true indicator of power. I'm pretty sure with a drag radial and alot of practice bangin gears, you'll get it in the mid to low 12's with the power you've got now. Then high elevens would be alot closer...
These guys are right about the CAI waking up alot of power on a big inch motor, I also hear alot about the stock 90TB being not so great at these power levels. Good luck!

You have a problem some where? Numbers are low for a 6 speed. Also that cam is way too small IMO.

my grandma would run a bigger cam than that if she built a 402

Get better heads, "AFR" comes to mind and like others have said, get a bigger cam. I suggest a 234 238 114lsa +4

Wow thats a pretty low statement. The guys at SDPC have been friends with us for a long time! I don't think this guy is saying for one minute he's unhappy with the car, I think he just wants ideas for a little more power.

We work with the guys @ SDPC daily, they're always quick to help us & we're always quick to do the same for them.

That vehicle was tuned prior to arriving at TSP, the only thing we changed here was the air fuel. The next time you feel the need to question a vendors integrity when you know nothing about the situation, do us all a favor and don't... It's just really low class...
