Default 383 ???????

After reading this thread im beggining to get sick........I went with the 383 build probably 5 months ago and to this day its only making 400 RWHP and 403 TRQ.....I have stage II ls1 heads from MTI along with a 232-238 lunati cam....Im running larger injectors and a booster pump with the set up.......Hooker Long Tubes...MSD wires.......Spec stage III Clutch..6 speed tranny through the 12 bolt mosier rear end.....LS6 intake...Stock ported throttle boty......The rockers are still stock

So the motor is making about 450 horsepower and torque.......Is this right or do i have something wrong in my set up...

I know your pain. my 1st every dyno on my 383 5 years ago was 376rwhp. 2 years of pain and changes later it was at 490 rwhp.

you definatly have something WRONG. your components seem good. who did your tune? any idea on timing and a/f?

MTI did my tune so im sure they did a good job doing it....They do safe tunes but i know that that number is still low.....Internals consist of Eagle forged crank, Scat H beam forged rods, and mahle forged light weight pistons....compression is somewhere around 10.8:1

What did you end up doing to make that much more horsepower?

I'm a bit curious myself... 112 RWHP jump is damn nice!

Well for one your losing some power through the 12 bolt. A Fast 90/90 wouldnt hurt and a cut-out would do wonders. Heads/Cam cars like to breath, especially strokers.

the 12 bolt takes about 3% witch ends up being about 12 rwhp and MTI told me that i wouldnt see a big gain with the fast 90/90.....They said they dont do much to the smaller cubed motors and that it might help me pick up 5 to 10 over the ls6 intake. And i have Dual Cuts outs. To me the fast 90 sounds great but when i look at the 10 rwhp for 1300 bucks it doesnt....but i guess you have to pay to play

Something is messed up bigtime. you need to post alot more specs for us to help...cam lift/installation...pistons/gasket/head specs. I dont like hooker headers and stock rockers but i dont think they are hurting.

I made 480rwhp with rapid LS1 heads, much bigger cam 242/250 .590/.590 109, with 90mm intake/tb...but i also had stock wheels, moser 4.10, steel driveshaft, billet flywheel...nothing special.

I wonder how a ported 90mm would do for you? A few 346's have had great results... Pat G for example.

I'll try to give a quick synopsis...

376 was with shorty headers, cats, stock lid/filter, stock TB, LS1 intake, through a cat-back, no pulley, half *** tune, 224/224 .53X cam.

cut out the EGR pipe in the LS1 intake and went to 384rwhp

with a lid and BBK TB it made 400/400, swapped to an ls6 intake and gained nothing.

swapped to 1 3/4 LT headers and !cats and it made 426/400

got a tune with LS1 edit, 435/420.

swapped to a 236/232 cam, 447/???

got my heads reworked and added an EWP and made 457.

swapped to a FAST 78mm and got 470rwhp.

open headers got 485

swapped to FAST 90/90 and got 490. would have made about 5rwhp more with tuning.

every one of these swaps is documented with dyno overlays, most of which are posted on here somethere or another. I've done about 250 pulls total with my 383 and 408

yea, 5.7L heads. when I made 490, they flowed 286@ .600 lift. just showing you that .600 lift numbers mean next to nothing.

This was my old 385 iron block. Little different than all stroke. It was an offset ground stock crank with a 4.060 bore iron block. Solid roller with 28 inch slicks, 12 bolt, moly driveshaft. Probably would be around 530 with regular tires.
