500 will be pushing with stock ported heads unless its a track only car. for a daily driver with good tq down low, you're probably looking at more like 475rwhp. an ls6 intake will also choke it a bit.

I've posted about a dozen graphs with different combinations on my old 383 years ago. search under my name.

well right now im at 408 rwhp/385rwtq so if i ad the stroker kit to my existing setup along with a bigger cam im hoping i can hit 500rwhp and ive heard the 383s produce loads of torque so im looking for around 450-480rwtq??

yes, you will get a lot of torque, but just like anything else, if you are trying to get max peak numbers, your tq is going to suffer

i would go for a 402 or something but i already have a brand new block, and not sure how much is involved in boring it out and everything so... i was just thinking of the 383

I'd say that the average 383 wiil put down around 440-470whp/430-460wtq. Of course, there are always exceptions.

If I put down 452rwhp and 408rwtq with a stock bottom end 346 with a set of ported 241 heads and a little 224/228 581/588 on a 110lsa then a 383 stroker with a big cam should be able to crank out 500rwhp. This was threw a 12 bolt with 4.30 gears and a Denny's nitrous ready driveshaft.

Here's another, car is an A4 w/ a 12 bolt, the drivetrain sucks up a little bit of power.

everyone is jumping the gun here...with a 3.42 rear and 11.5-12:1 you might be able to do it with a cam that is matched well to your heads. too big a cam and a 12 bolt probably not. All the tricks help too..mezier water pump, aluminum flywheel, port matched intake, good rockers like Jesel, Morel lifters.....

i made 480rwhp440tq with great ported ls1 heads at 11:1, 92 octane with a moser 4.11. 11.5-12:1 is normal now. mistakes i made were 1 7/8 headers (too big), billet flywheel, too big of cam, not enough compression....

I'll be doing a 383 in my car very soon. You can go big on the cam but you have to make sure you have good static and dynamic balance. Every part of your buildup will play an important roll... valve reliefs, head chamber size, valve springs, head gaskets used, lifters used, ect... It will be very unlikely that an off the shelf cam will get you the numbers you want.

FWIW, I'll be maxing out on just about everything (static comp will be 11.72:1 and dynamic will be 8.71:1) and I serisouly doubt it will be anywhere near 500rwhp.

Very close indeed! Whats your head chamber size and cam you are going with??? Curious how close we actually are. Just be careful going over 8.75 DCR... they tend to ping on 93 oct pump gas after that.

ok well here is my plan- 383 eagle crank 4.00stroke, callies rods, thinking JE Pistons but thats what im not sure about as far as valve reliefs and such how do i figure out what i will need like -2cc4cc etc, the heads are SLP the ones i have now that are LS6 63.5cc 2.08"/1.60" valves, 1.250"dual springs, thinkin of a cam like this 234/238 (.598 / .605 114 LSA) after reading the thread by tony mamo i need a clutch so i am going to use a lightened flywheel not sure which one yet i have a set of stainless works headers highflow cats gmmg exhaust, LS6 intake(stock) possibly upgrading to a fast down the road when i want to put maybe a 100-150 shot also, and the other minor bolt ons pulley, and my lid. What you guys think? help me out on the pistons please or explain to me how i figure it out.Oh yeah i want around 11-11.5-1 compression

that cam isnt big enough in my opinion...id go around 240..I had a 242/250 and that was maybe a tad too much...

You might make 500rwhp with a stock 3:42, port matched ls6 and aluminum flywheel...with a 90mmFast id say for sure...

Check my sig for my 383 numbers. Thats with a ls6 intake, 92 octane, 3.90's and cats. Ported 90/90 just might get me 500+ at the wheels. 11.8 SCR and 8.4 DCR.

a 234/238 should be a great cam for a DD 383. I had a 236/232 XER lobe in mine and it made 490rwhp and 475 rwtq. regardless, I would recommend calling a guy like FTI and have a custom grind made for your goals and heads.
