Not to High jack your thread bud but this is a valid point. If there are guys making that much power with `98 stock heads then they can't be that bad.
Another thought is that Peak Dyno numbers don't tell the whole story. Power under the curve is what you want. A car with more power throughout the rev range can be faster than a car with a bigger numbers at the top end.
The short story is the more powerful car is not always the fastest.
I've never read that much into Dyno numbers anyway, they are tools for tuning but unfortunately too many people use them as bragging rights.

Don aka Slowhawk at Dez Racing put the exact same cam that he had custom ground for my car in a 99+ fbody and he told me that it made 15+ rwhp over what my car made with almost exactly the same mods. I dont know how much better the 99+ heads flow but they are certainly better than the 98's as they have the worst flow numbers of all years. You can make good power with them, just not as much as 99+ heads will yield, but thats all the more reason to swap them out for a nice killer set of PRC/AFR/ETP/Patriot/TFS/etc heads!

I made 409 hp and 384 tq on my 98 TA with stock heads, MAC headers ORP, Hooker cat back, LS6 intake, and all the bolt on's running through a 12 bolt. This was done with a custom comp cam and was dyno tuned by Ed Wright in Tulsa, OK.

Last year when I was cam only I made 396hp/ 383tq on dynojet #s.
Cam- SRP custom 228/230 588/591 112+4
LS6 intake, pacesetter LTs, 2.5" true duals, 3" steel drive shaft, on chrome Z06s wrapped in MT drag radials.
6 speed tranny, Moser 9" w/ detroit locker and 4.11s.
Hope that helps.

Good numbers!
The 98 (806) heads supposedly flow less than any other LS1 head.
From what I understand, all the heads are very similar in design. However, each year that went by, the heads flow better because of slight revisions from the factory.

Conclusion of this thread IMO is that its a hit or a miss. Either they make outstanding power or just decent numbers.
I don't see that it makes a huge difference 98 or not. They seem just as capable as any other year out there.
