Default New 402/L92 Results

I got my new home built 402/L92 combo tuned at Cartek yesterday. I'm only running 10.8 SCR (you never know where gas is going these days!).

I ended up with 460/421. It runs great and it feels like a rocket. I can cruise at 1500 rpm in 6th and just open the throttle up and it goes. I can't post pictures, so if anyone at Cartek see's this feel free to post the graph.

The L92 heads and cam were an experiment that were picked out 6 months ago.

Julio was great, as well as everyone else at Cartek!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Guys!!!!

I think a new cam from Cartek or Cartek heads/cam will be next. I still want a honest 500 rwhp so I just need to save my lunch money.

Sounds like they are pretty good numbers, I would think you could get close to 500 RWHP with a 402 though.

Is this a Automatic car?

OUCH.

Yeah I was thinking it was a Auto with the numbers being so low.

Get a Cam in that thing with some good heads & you should get 500 RWHP & alot more I bet.

I would get the

TFS Heads & custom cam with a FAST 90/90 & it will feel like a completely diff car with power through out the whole band.

Your TQ looks really low for a 402

I know a setup that will get you to 500+ with your setup.

I know budget is the word around here for the L92s, but when you build up a 402 shortblock and make less power AND torque than a head/cam job. Yeah, budget goes out the window. If you're using near stock stuff though and putting the money into the bottom end first, then hey, we've all been there at some point with un-optimized combos per our budget.

Now, I'm sure drivability is better with the 402 at the same power level, but I've seen mild cams (230 or so) in a 402 do 500rwhp and 480rwtq. WKMCD's setup is similar to that and he's using the L92s.

So, what's the rest of the combo?

And he can cruise at 1000rpm and is running 3.90's.

Well he did say that this had been planned 6 months beforehand and that he's going to save for some better parts. If he's happy, why criticize the setup?

Ah, but the real trick is to do it with 3.42s and a 383.

I'm happy with the results as it was a new game when I started playing. Patrick G. recommended the cam and I understood that we were in somewhat untested waters. Look at what Kevin (WKMCD) went through with his setup.

Yes, I will change the cam in the near future. I already spoke to Julio at Cartek about it. He had some ideas about what might work better.

Remember I'm leaving a bunch of power on the table with my 10.8 SCR and 1 3/4" headers. I'll be raising the compression up some when I do the cam.

You guy's need to remember it's only a toy that I burn money with.

1-3/4" Headers aren't the problem. Also, 10.8:1 SCR is low, but not that low. I've seen 402/408s make 510-520/470 with 11:1, huge cams, 1-3/4" headers, and poor flowing heads.

The rest of the combo is Vararam, L76 intake with 90mm T/B, MN6 trans, 4:10's, Cartek Clutch and Corsa Catbacks.

The heads flow 350/230 @ .600. I think the cam needs to go. I just purchased a QTP 2 pc front cover that will go on when I change this cam. It will make it easier the third time.

What the hell, someone needs to help chart new territority. I had fun putting it together.

I'll take it to the track soon and see what it can do. I don't think that I'll get too many runs, as I'll get tossed off the track without a roll bar.

Numbers are kinda low. What are the specs of your cam and the rest of your set up.

The heads are ported and milled 20.

I think that the stock heads flowed 328 and 215 stock.

Something is wrong there .A guy around here did a 402 with untouched L92's and made almost 490 I believe.
