Default Budget 6.0 Build

I'm putting together an LQ4 for my 88 Monte SS and I'm trying to figure out power numbers. Heres the combo...

Stock '05 LQ4
Edelbrock Victor Jr
650 Double Pumper
1 3/4" long tubes, 3" collectors, 2.5" xpipe

All of this will be backed by a Fuddle 3600 stall, built 2004r, 4.10 gears, and 26" Hoosier. Car should weigh in a little under 3500lbs with driver.

After I get the motor in and running, I plan to do a cam/spring swap, looking at a few different grinds, some where in the upper 220 duration and around 0.585 lift.

Any one have any input? Suggestions? Power ideas? I'm hoping the setup without a cam swap should get me into the 12.40s-12.60s and the cam swap should get me into the high 11s.

Thanks guys
Nick

I wouldnt go with fuddle, but thats just me. Yank and Precision Industries (Vigi) have been proven to be top notch converters and I would go with one of them... More expensive but i bet it gets you down the track faster...

if i were you i'd be looking for a set of 243 heads at least. you might go 12.6 on a hard hook..

with regard to fuddle converters - i had one and loved it. i had a problem when i first got it, but they stood behind it and took care of me, no problem. because of this i am buying another one, but it will be a little bigger.

I had planned to leave the heads stock. From what I've seen, the stock 317s flow fairly well. Only benefit I would really see would be an increase in compression. If I can get mid to high 12s out of it with nothing but bolt ons, thats great. A cam swap should get me low 12s/high 11s. I've heard of stock lq4s with an F13 put down close to 390 at the wheels.

The 317 heads are 243 heads, but with larger chambers (243 = ~66cc, 317 = 72cc). Sounds like you are talking about me. My LQ4 went 12.83 @ 107mph in 2000' DA (race weight of 3725lbs), while dynoing 342rwhp unlocked. Now with the F13, it is at 390 rwhp with the converter unlocked. Next week I shall see what it traps, ET (on street tires) should be in the low 12s.

I would put a bigger cam in there as you will have the ci for at least a 230+.

I was looking into possibly milling the 317s or putting a thinner head gasket, but when I go to a larger cam, I'd probably run into PTV issues. I'd rather run the 317s w/ stock gaskets for now and then step up the cam size. At a later date I can swap on a set of 243 style heads or possibly L92s when funds allow.

I'm also leaning towards a yank SS3600, thats if they can make it for my 2004r with an LS1 pilot (or if not, I can run the Hughes adapter).

The F13 with a 112lsa looks real good. 12secSS, what springs did you run? Let me know how your car runs.

Thanks
Nick

Sound good, let me know how it does, I may copy your combo lol. With me being at sea level, I should see some better times anyway.

Thanks
