Default My new project...

Let the fun and games begin. I bought a stock 1994 Z28 A4 (2.73 gears) to use as a nice build up project. I made an appointment to have it baselined on a dynojet tomorrow morning at 10:00. I'll post up the results ASAP.

Based on my previous LT1's I'm thinking it'll be right around 235 rwhp, with the torque between 265 and 285. Once that's done I'll start collecting speed parts for it starting with basic bolt-ons.

I know it's not an LS1, but I figure you guys would probably be interested in seeing the buildup. I want to do dyno or track testing at each stage and I'll keep everyone posted on the results. I'll keep it moving along as fast as I can, but I only have so much money to spend each paycheck, so it might not go as quickly as I'd like, lol.

I also want to keep track of my performance with my G-Tech and compare it to my track and dyno numbers (the G-Tech dyno numbers are always very low). Should be interesting and, if nothing else, fun!

Well, I just got back from the dyno. It was on a dynojet. I was just getting a baseline, no changes.

First pull it made 238.5 RWHP at 5025 rpm and 285.7 rwtq at 3175 rpm uncorrected
Second pull I had them close the hood to since that's how it is driving aroundand it made 237.9 rwhp at 5025 rpm and 281.7 rwtq at 3975 rpm (torque was falling at the start) uncorrected.

I made on more pull with the hood open and it made the same as the first pull.

Lastly, I had them give me the SAE numbers and came up with 230.5 rwhp and 273.0 rwtq with the torque falling from the get go.

Overall it looks like it's right where it should be for a bone stock A4. Looks like there was a 16.2% drivetrain loss if it's making the 275 that it's rated.

I'll get the graphs posted ASAP

I have 96z28 and had 96ta and 97 ta.The 97 ta had quite a few bolt ons. My 96z28 has quite a few also. I have g2 induction with holley filter,52bbk, aps underdrive, magnaflo catback,3.42 gear swap, 2800 vigilante, jet full spectrum laptop tuning, fast fuel reg, racetronix pump,30 svo injectors. Car has never run that great at track think do to old spark plugs. Best last season was 14.2 at 94mph with a 2.0 60ft on et street radials.
Track is 1600 feet and car was not pulling good. Changed out three spark plugs and its running better now. Be nice to change out the other 5 but lt1 plug changes suck on stock exhaust!
I have bought but not installed mac headers, CC 305 cam, 1.6 pro mags, msd coil, new accel wires, ngk iridium plugs.I am waiting on getting some afr elminator 180 heads and new msd opti then do the whole mod fest. Also have zex wet nitrous not installed on car yet either.
Hoping for mid 12s NA and 11s on spray. Car is like 3820 raceweight. its a heavy vert. Have suspension mods..spohn adjustable torque arm, panhard and lower control arms.Hotchkis drop springs and shock tower brace, lower control arm brackets ,kyb agx shocks and heavy crome z06 17 inch rims.

I used to really follow the grapes of wrath build up and was dissapointed that build up ended before they could do a few more things. Also have local buddy doing up his 94z28 this season. He has 3.23s ,also bought 2800 vig like me and has macs to install and cutout, he might get cam and heads in next year or so. His best on et street radials is 13.8 or 13.7 think at 100 or 101 mph. He is light though 130 pound driver and think his raceweight was 3500 pounds. He has flowmaster exhaust, underdrive.mail order tuning. His opti died and he just bought new msd opti.
We both really like our lt1 cars. I wonder if I can get 340 or 350 rwhp out of mine with my planned mds not counting the spray of course.See how that goes.Good luck and be following along on your project closely.

I'm seeing 14.5 @ 96 in your near future, Ron.

LOL, anything's possible Joe, but I still have my money on a 14.2-14.3. Not that 2 tenths is gonna set the world on fire, but hey, 2 tenths is 2 tenths.

MY99TAWS6, sounds like a nice project you got there! The mph seems very low for the current mods, but the time is good for the mph. Let us know how you do this year with the new mods! Should run quite a bit better!

I do think my mph is bad. And pretty sure its from the original plugs. I took out and changed three and they were huge gaps and looked pretty worn out. I may put in the other 5 and track it or might just wait for the big modfest and do the plugs at same time as macs.Macs really help plug access turning an all day job with stock manifolds into a half hour job.
buddy ran some low 14s with his 94z auto 3.23 car. Now runs 13.7 with still pretty minor mods. He is hoping to see high 12s or very low 13s this year when he adds his macs and 2800 stall and cutout. Oh forgot he has 1.6 rockers added too. Remember my mph is also about three mph lower than my buddies from the extra 300 or 400 pounds. I weigh 240 and he weighs 130. And their is the difference from heavy vert with heavy 17s and his light 94z28 hardtop.

The weight difference will definitely make a difference. I'm curious to see how your mph increases after the tuneup. I'm guessing you see an easy 96-98mph. Let us know.
