Default Cobalt dyno (for any that care)

To let everyone have a little background on my car it is a 2006 cobalt ss supercharged. The car was not stock but for a day so i never had a true baseline to go with.

The first time i dyno'd the car my setup was

2.5" pulley
60 pound injectors
full exhuast
dual pass h/e
dual pass intercooler endplate
drop in filter
hpt tuned 12.3 afr 23* timing

Those were the numbers, the dyno is a low reading dyno. Most people on that setup put down close to 290 whp but the car ran strong and trapped 110 and moved 42 lb/min through the maf.

In early march i was selected by harrop to be a tester for the htv 1320. For those of you that don't know it is the tvs 1320 the new generation of eaton blowers, just like the one in the zr1 just a liter smaller.

Some pics

htv 1320 supercharger
2.75" pulley
oversized tensioner pulley
60# injectors
dual pass intercooler endplate
autolite copper step 1 colder plugs
dual pass heat exchanger (ran inline with stock unit)
extra surge tank for coolant
r.a.w. 3" cold air intake
ls4 throttle body
cti longtube header 1 3/4" primaries 3" collector
cti 3" catless downpipe
cti 3" catback
hp tuners tuned
devils own progressive meth injection kit
2.5 gallon trunk mount tank
return style fuel rail
walbro gss342 fuel pump
aeromotive fuel pressure regulator

meth was not used for the runs, tune was conservative 11.0 afr and 16* timing.

The meth tune is being worked on and should be able to pull 335 whp out of it. The operator had a little trouble getting used to my car so that is what the bucking on the dyno is. All numbers are sae, thanks for reading

253whp on the old setup with the pretty crazy tune 313whp on the new blower and conservative tune.

I am impressed! So the factory motor has forged pistons rods ect....? How many pounds of boost did it take with the new blower to reach over the 300rwhp mark?

The pistons are not the rods are. Im running 25 psi as far as boost goes, it exceeds what the cars map sensor can register. There are other things that are holding the car back that are being worked on as well.

Damn! How much, are you seeing, that the stock pistons can take boost/power wise before they get to the point of being on borrowed time? Sorry for the elementary ecotec questions.

The problem that most people run into are extremely high iat2's becuase of the stock blower most people nuke piston number 4. This blower runs so much cooler though and plus the mods i have to keep it that way i am not concerned. There are a few people who have pushed over 400 whp on stock pistons.

As far as how much i am seeing i have the stock boost gauge and it maxes at twenty and it gets to that very quick and pushes further and then resets becuase it can not register. I need to get a mechanical gauge.

The Ecos are nice motors. I have one in a 1700lb sandrail. It's the 2.2l that I turbo'd. 8.9-1 comp, stock cams, intake and TB with a GT3076 at 15lbs of boost made 266rwhp thru a very inefficient transaxle. Only running 24deg of timing with race fuel, so still some power in there.

Nice setup.

Yeah im still on stock internals and pushing over 100 whp over what most stock guys make, so i'd say they did a good job.

That is a lot of power , couple of questions though :

Why was the smoothing turned down to zero making the graph look real rugged with the harrop supercharger ?
Why did you start measuring data at 5000 rpms with the harrop supercharger ? Was there issues with too much boost down in the lower rpms that were difficult to tune ?

Just curious .

There was a spike with smoothing on 5 that made tq go to 302 wtq. So to give a more accurate representation of actually tq i turned the smoothing to zero. The runs started at 3400 i don't know why he even started that high. There are no problems with the tune though.

Here is a few more graphs
